Wanted to de-bug the Oil Pan. I would rather control when it will break. So much easier in my garage than on the trail.

So as I was just finised changing the oil and before I replaced my Rock Guard I decided to cut this off.

Well I didn't expect it to be hollow!

So off with the pan and off to the welder. Then to the dealer to order a gasget and o-rings.
The welder was do the same day and only cost $30
The gasget would take a week.

This is the tab that the stock guard bracket bolts to. I didn't want this getting knocked off on the trail.

Next I want to find some low profile drain plugs!!! Any Suggestions?

Can’t you cutting it without the needing of welding?
In the next oil change I’m thinking to do the same ::008::

Get a skid plate. ::001::

I do have a plate. On a resent ride I hit or a few rocks got thrown up that put a substantial dent in the plate. A hit in the wrong place would push into that tab and take out the pan.

Can you put 2 skid plates on it? Extra dent protection.

Belt and Suspenders?

You can see how deep the 'hollow' area is in his picture:

As long as you cut it off below that hollow area, you would not need to weld anything.
