Unless Yamaha changes it on the trip to stateside I'm going to have to switch this out with a BMW type plug as all my gear is the latter. Anyone done this or aware of an aftermarket kit?
Thats my plan also. But that is a problem with the plug vibrating out. I've missed some great footage on the helmet cam from the plug vibrating out.colorider said:I was origianlly going to switch mine out until the HDB top clamp group buy came along and I found out how nice they are for adding the powerlet style receptacles. I plan to have two mounted in the HDB clamp. One switched and one un-switched. I will leave the OEM one just in case I ever have need for a standard oulet.
Had the same problem with the plug vibrating out on long trips. Used small cable ties and a wide rubber band to make an elastic "bra" to hold it in.markjenn said:The problem with cig lighter plugs is that they have very little resistance to vibrating out. I don't know exactly how these adapters work, but if they're not secured in any better, they'll suffer the same problem.

They mentioned the war dammit!the wikipedia said:Similar in concept to an automotive accessory receptacle, the DIN 4165 connector is shorter and smaller in diameter. It was originally a standard fitting on all the German military vehicles during World War II.
The DIN 4165 is also known as the BMW Accessory plug as it is used on BMW cycles, the Powerlet connector after of a firm that produces them, and, in Australia (where they are popular in mobile power applications, including 4WD and Caravaning), as the Hella plug or Merit plug.
At least one manufacturer sells a plug that combines a cigarette lighter plug and a powerlet, in much the same way that combination auto/airplane notebook computer power adapters combine a cigarette lighter plug and an ARINC 628/EmPower plug.
