My daughter is getting married on 9/21/14 and I am picking a song for us to dance to. My daughter is very vintage in style and classic. Her wedding dress is 100 yrs old. We are VERY close and I do not want to sappy of a song so I do not embarrass myself or her getting too choked up, I expect to cry for sure some but don't want to be uncontrollable... :'(

We have narrowed it down and the 2 that stand out are La Vie en Rose by Louis B Armstrong just because it is so cool and classy...or...Summertime by Billie Holiday because of its lyrics being so beautiful and specifically about a parent and child relationship, but it is not sappy.

What do you folks think?

A- Rose, Louis

2- Summertime, Billie

If only A and ! my choice: A- Rose, Louis

2- Summertime, Billie
A- Rose, Louis

Louis Armstrong - La vie en rose (Original Video) HD

2- Summertime, Billie
Billie Holiday - Summertime

If those are correct then I would go with "A" over "2"

or how about some others?

The Way You Look Tonight ( Frank Sinatra )

I like this one and not your classic but could be? Go sappy :)

"Daddy's Angel" - The perfect father daughter wedding dance song!

No Frank...way over done lately. We have been to at least 3 weddings this summer where they danced to "just the way you look tonight" for the couple dance or the daddy daughter dance. That's out.

As to the "Daddy's Angel"...NO WAY. No offense to our southern friends but dang I hate COUNTRY music. I LOVE the country, horses, open ranges, cows, all of the things "country" folk love EXCEPT country music. I am a southern boy....southern California and I have never been able to like country music...modern country the most... ::005::

I love Johnny Cash and some old country/rock ish stuff. Cant do the Garth Brooks and other yodelers of today.

Sorry, I guess I took that sideways.

So 2 votes so far for Louis Armstrong's version of La Vie En Rose.

Has anyone read the lyrics of "Summertime"?
Great to ode to parents being there for a child, now and forever. Not a tear jerker but sweet and classic.

Summertime and the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is fine
Oh your Daddy's rich and your ma is good lookin'
So hush little baby, don't you cry

One of these mornings
You're goin' to rise up singing
Then you'll spread your wings
And you'll take the sky
But till that morning
There's a nothin' can harm you
With daddy and mammy standin' by

Both great, classic songs, but my vote would be for Louis Armstrong.

Can't go wrong with either one, though. Good luck with the wedding! ::008::

Thanks for posting the links, Combo. Wasn't familiar with those tunes. After a brief listen, I'm leaning towards Louie.

Whichever song is chosen, I'm sure you and your daughter will have a great time and remember it forever.

Derecki and Bark Slayer,

See post 4...cant stand country music...makes my head want explode. Also on the daddy don't you walk so fast...I do not like the message of the words, Dad leaving mom and only staying for the daughter. No thanks. I have never left my wife as she is amazing.

We have decided. We are doing the specific daddy daughter dance to Billie Holiday, Summertime. We will be playing En Vie La Rose by Louis also during the night and maybe I will sneak another dance, that will likely be with my wife though.

Never said it was bad at all, just that we have seen it way too much this summer. All you have done is prove that. We just want something different. None of us remember Summertime at a wedding for the daddy daughter dance, and we love the words.

Sorry, can't offer anything for a song. I only offer my congratulations on both your great relationship with your daughter, and your upcoming addition to the family.

I anticipate I'll be in your position within the next couple of years. I also anticipate my composure will be outmatched that day.

Best of luck to you. Hope you enjoy the day.

So update:

The wedding went off without a hitch. BEAUTIFUL day for an outdoor wedding up in Idyllwild Ca. 74* and perfectly sunny. Not enough of a breeze to ruffle any table cloths or blow over any decorations, but just enough to keep it feeling fresh.

The wedding started exactly on time at the Kingdom Hall at 3pm. I walked her down both of us smiling, kissed her on the cheek, shook his hand and kissed him on the cheek...30 min ceremony and a few pics. Off to the reception by 4 pm and a great evening of friends and family, great food and dancing.

We danced to Billie Holiday's Summertime and kept it fun and light with a twirl or two thrown in. She looked STUNNING in a very vintage dress, tailor guessed 60-80 yrs old with a simple wreath crown and some wingtip oxford shoes...she was a vision.

It was a destination style wedding for the family and bridal party. The Woodland Park Manor was spectacular. It is a cabin campground with 6 separate cabins. 5 are split cabins with a shared kitchen and a demising door for a nice 2 room 2 bath, 3 bed unit and 1 single unit called "the cabin in the woods"...a few hundred yards down a wooded trail.

We had a total of 28 people stay in the 11 rooms and 16 beds for 2 nights and 3 days for a very leisurely and relaxed wedding weekend.

Thanks for all input and ideas. ::012::

Thanks Checks...I definitely gained in the deal.

His father was murdered when he was 7, then his mom married a real jackhole who stole the modest amount of life insurance she got, abused her and her 2 sons and then threw them out on the street...the 3 of them lived in a car for 2 weeks with barely more than the clothes on their back. They are Korean and very humble by nature and went through some very hard times, but he came out with strong character and a great work ethic.

He obviously never got the day to day guidance and training a good father would pass on, but together we working on that. We have gotten very close. We are building an Airstream for them to live in and we are spending a tremendous amount of time working side by side. I am gaining a son and a feeling of fulfillment showing him how to work with his hands and tools and he is eager to learn.

It really is great story {not bragging or saying I am some great story, just that kids are succeeding together } and I am proud just to be a cog in that wheel.

I will try to post a few pics of them this next week.

Only sad part in the story ending is their initials....Kevin & Kelsey Kye... ::025::
