After having the previous model for 2 years put up about 14000 miles I decided to go for the new ES model earlier this spring. No issues with the bike would say it was smoother more responsive and all round thumb up. However last weekend I was in Scotland for weekend when for 2 days the cruise control wouldn't work. Memo contact dealer take it in. Arranged for today and you know what worked perfectly. Went onto dealers who after diagnostics etc couldn't find fault. Anyone else found this mysterious happening?

Brake on. Either your fat foot is on the pedal or the brake light switch is staying on. Check the brake light switch adjustment.

I'm having the same issue. Cruise was working fine. I stopped for gas, got back on the freeway, cruise light comes on, but when i press SET, nothing happens.

I checked both front and rear brake micro switches, and the one on the clutch, and all work fine. I just checked the 1 amp cruise fuse, and tested it with a multimeter, no problem there either.. I'm stumped.

Any clues as to where else I should be looking? Dealer is 70 miles away and I'd rather solve it myself than waste a day to watch the techs scratching their heads.

Thank you.

The cruise control only works in 3rd gear and above at speeds of 50km/h and above

Cruise control not working.

Let us know if you correct, find the problem. I did read must be 3rd gear and over 35mph - like iClint said.

Would make sense about the adjustments, some person at the factory thought they had everything working when it shipped to the country and then I'm sure every technician in the dealerships think it must be working so everything is fine unless there were "0" miles on it when you bought it.

Does anyone know if there are any connectors in the cruise circuit? Maybe loose or bad connection?

I have 6400km on the bike, and I've used the cruise quite a few times. I'm in 6th gear and cruising on the freeway when I set it.. no green SET light.

I checked the 1 amp cruise fuse, visually and with a multimeter. It's good
both brake switched and clutch switch, all good.

The orange cruise light comes on when I turn it on. The only thing left to check is the SET / RESUME switch. I'd like to see if I can blow some contact cleaner in there.

According to the owner's manual, if there was a cruise fault, the amber cruise light would be flashing and it's not flashing, which leads me to believe it might be the switch,

Just for grins, while at speed sort of blip the clutch to make sure it is totally out. Found that was the problem on my tour deluxe. Clutch not slipping, but the switch was not totally engaged.

Never had the problem on the Ténéré.

Genius!! I checked the micro switch on the clutch control, and it was working fine, but then I pushed the clutch lever outwards and it moved a few millimeters. I have an aftermarket lever. I decided to take it out and that brass fitting was super tight in there, whereas it's loose in the OEM cheap ass lever. I put the OEM lever back in and the the cruise worked!!

SO, the lesson here is that the cruise will disengage at the slight touch of the clutch lever and before the micro switch cuts in.. how is this achieved, I have no idea.

Thank you very much for the suggestion!!

The two main reasons for the cruise not working appear to be that the owner has adjusted the brake pedal without adjusting the brake pedal switch and/or is using after market levers that are interfering with the proper action of the clutch switch.
