OK. Right now I use a Giant Loop Great Basin bag, but, I have the chance to get some OEM hard cases. What do all the other riders prefer???

I like the OEM side cases for practicality - easy on and easy off and pretty good storage space. Also, the OEM side cases stays are pretty tidy when the cases are off the bike. As for top case, I'm not too keen on the OEM case - I have a GIVI V46 top case. However, note that the OEM side cases will not open if the GIVI top case is on the bike. To overcome this small handicap, the OEM side cases can still be removed in a second with the GIVI top case on the bike.

Hope you'll find this useful.

The S10 is the second bike I've had with aluminium boxes and I can't see myself going back to plastic or soft luggage. The extra security and practicality and total waterproofness make them the choice for me. I'm using ARD Cases which fit on to various racking systems and are top quality at reasonable (for the quality) prices, see link below -

At the end of the day it comes down to personal choice and use; if I was carrying a passenger I would go for a Givi top box as they are super comfy for pillions - the choice is yours ::008::

I have the OEM side cases. On my previous bike (BMW F800GS) I had a set of aluminum Touratech Zega panniers. And I have mixed feelings about both.

The OEM Yamaha cases are tidy, relatively easy to use, and very functional. One thing that annoys me is that you need the key in the pannier to open and close it (whereas the Touratech ones had a lockable latch, but you could open and close an unlocked pannier without a key. )

The Touratechs were way burlier, but probably overkill for 95% of my riding. The Yamaha panniers are a little ersatz (plastic but with aluminum "paneling"), but as I've ridden and used them, they provide all the function I really want or need.

For a low side or tip over, I'd rather have the burly all metal boxes. But for the simple "schlep stuff" factor, the Yammi's serve just fine.

FWIW I've never been a top box guy...I don't like the optics and haven't needed that much storage. But I did get a Kriega tail bag which has a great mounting system, is totally waterproof, and gives extra carrying capacity. I really like it. Here's my laden S10 from a road trip last summer. Hope this helps.

Well, that helped a lot!!! Thanks for the replies. I like the bag but I also like the idea of the side boxes for the lock ability and what not. But splitting traffic with the boxes has me a little concerned, with the bag I can cut it real close. I guess I will have to give it a try.
