I don't plan on doing any hard offroading and wouldn't therefore like to put on crash bars. However, I would like some protection in case I drop the bike. Anybody fixed crash bobbins (or sliders) to their ST? Which make?

The stock pieces that are on there work very well for a stop and drop. Believe me, I have tested that one and they worked just fine... ::025:: especially with bags on it.

::026:: I dropped the bike several times at low/no speed before installing crash bars and agree with Robo, the stock side protectors along with the handguards and bags do a good job of protecting the bike on level surfaces and even gravel roads. I tried to make a sharp u-turn on a steep gravel road and didn't keep my momentum up enough, promptly dropping it. ;D No damage to the bike, just a couple of scuffs on the oem guard and a handguard.

R&G makes bar end sliders for use with the OEM handguards - HERE

Of less real use, (imho), are the R&G front axle sliders HERE

Metisse makes a swingarm slider kit - HERE

Seems like I saw a spendy aluminum version of the oem side protectors too, but I can't find that now. The oem parts can break, but are also cheap to replace if need be and tend to sacrafice themselves nicely while saving the bike.

Please excuse my ignorance on this bike as it has not yet been delivered to me (expected March delivery) and am therefore not all that familiar with its components. I was not aware that it has stock bobbins (ot sliders). The ST I bought is not the World Crosser but the standard one. Will this have sliders on it?

The Givi crash bars are a little bit outrageous for my liking. In fact I do not wish to install any crash bars at all.

The bike has some stock side protectors that work well for pavement or flat gravel/dirt, but they are not bobbins, but rather a piece that bolts up in two places on each side at a strong mounting point.

This is a picture I just took. Not the best picture. The oem guard is behind the Rumbux crash bar in the picture.

This is a picture of the mounting points.
