Hey guys,
had a little uh-oh in the mud yesterday and bend my Givi crash bar, including the mounting point :(
Has any of you had this happen before? Any recommendation on how to fix it?

And i know, if you buy cheap, you buy twice ... Altrider crash bars are ordered already.

Thanks so much!

Technically, they did their job.

While they are inexpensive and less stout than the Altriders, there has been a lot of Tenere dirt naps on Givis and not damaged the bars or mounting points.
There was probably a fair bit of energy at impact.

Not sure the best method for straightening that mounting tab. There was another recently reported bent tab and hopefully someone pitches in with good advice.

My Tenere has been knocked over multiple times onto the right side when I used to park on the street. After enough times getting knocked over onto concrete, both the altrider bars and the mounting point bent. With the bars, I was able to hammer them back into shape. For the mounting tab, I inserted the screw and used that as leverage to bend the mounting point on the frame back into shape. It's not 100% straight, but good enough and I still have the same bars on the bike now.

Perfect Sckill, that's what I was wondering and hoping for!
And to be honest, it was not the first nap on the right side ;)

Thanks!

Yup, they did their job and protected the bike.
And it was not the first time.
And there was some energy involved for sure ;)

Glad to have you guys here as a quick support - always very much appreciated!!!

This really surprised me. Thought there were tougher.

::026:: The bars bending....ok. The mount bending....hmmmm, not good. Maybe the bars acted as a lever, and put more mechanical leverage/force on the mount.

Yes you are right, the leverage causes the mounting area to deform. If left as the original design (plastic bars), it would have withstand the drop. I dropped mine on the original plastic bars and no harm done. I have a Touratech bars that works in conjunction with the plastic bars.

That is a HUGE reason that I went with the Mastec crash bars. I believe that they will give adequate protection without providing any negative "leverage".
