So is it better to crumble the crackers before putting them in the soup or does one put them in the soup then crunch them up with the spoon?  ::006:: ::006:: ::006::

You are clearly a soup novice. Any seasoned Souper knows it's crack, then mix...

Who the hell would drop a whole cracker in the soup and then fight to get it to a size that you could get in your mouth?

Sheer lunacy!

The more experienced soup person crunches the crackers up in the little bag they come in, then opens the bag and pours that into the soup or chowder. ;)

If the soup is chunky enough I start by using the crackers to scoop the chunks. Gotta be quick, though, before the crackers get soggy and collapse. After a few of those delicious hot little hors d'ouevres I go with the tried and true crunch & sprinkle method to finish the bowl.

Probably not an acceptable practice in public, but at home watching football it's the only way to go!

This sounds like a potential stew-n-crackers interlude vs. a soup-n-crackers situation. Lets not get our genres mixed here - this is important stuff!

::026:: crack then mix.

#1 - Ritz
#2 - Saltines
#3 - Chunks of bread & butter if #1 or #2 are not available.

The Ritz vs saltine debate depends solely on the soup in question. And could be an entire thread unto itself...

I totally agree with choice three, if no crackers are available. Sometimes cornbread with butter beats them all...of course I'm from the south so...

Nothing to be ashamed of, snake! Food is meant to be enjoyed, even (especially) if it gets a little messy sometimes!!

It's also excellent in a hearty homemade vegetable soup with a tomato base.

For chili, I like to decorate with cheese and sour cream and use Scoops as an edible spoon. As a matter-of-fact that's what we're having for Superbowl dinner...that and homemade Guac....

Excellent! Cornbread with Chili for sure.

So is it - Chili w / Corn Bread or...Tomato Soup w / Ritz Crackers or…Clam Chowder w / Oyster Crackers?

Oyster Crackers?
Oooohh.... Forgot about Oyster Crackers - those little nuggets of goodness are good in a number of applications...or solo sometimes...

And by "solo" I, of course, mean "with beer"...
