I'm going to wait until someone can give a total weight for the front seat. I have a Corbin on my Versys that is almost twice a heavy as stock.

Call them and ask.

If history prevails the Corbin seat will be heavier.

How heavy is the Sargent, Mayer, Russell?

I wonder if you can get it without the tuck & roll.....but would probably just get the standard 'asphalt vinyl' top. I like gripper seats. Just no tuck & roll. Guess I'll call them.

Corbin will do (almost) anything you want and you can ride-in (no appointment) to do it. Plus they will (used to) buy you up to two meals at (their) Wizard Diner.

In 2006 I rode-in and bought a KLR seat. And over the next four years rode-in twice and had them modify the seat for free. The Wizard Diner is a great place for a lunch if you are in the Hollister area.

Can anyone offer a comparison between Corbin & Russel seats? Russel seems to have a very comprehensive approach and I have found little in the way of complaints. Corbin on the other hand seems to be a well established outfit with lots of fans.
I just need someone who has owned both and is willing to offer an honest opinion.

I love my Corbin seat.

It's been heavily rained on twice and feels better then my Dainese leather jacket.

As this is my first Corbin, I'm very impressed.

PS: The image? What I really want to be doing.

Honest?

Corbin/Sargent = an "aftermarket" seat made to replace and somewhat better than the original and considered to be among the best in "aftermarket" seats.

Russell/Meyer = a "Custom" seat made specifically for your weight, height, riding position, considered to be among the best in "Custom" seats.

Thanks Bloke. Do you have any actual "seat-time" on both brands?

not enough to give you a true opinion, i never was much of an aftermarket or custom seat guy i did have a couple of bikes that came with corbins and a sargent but i always preferred the stock seat after switching back and forth for a few thousand miles, i just ordered a russell for my s10 since my big time riding buddies (one has 235000 on his v strom) absolutely swear by them and my missis has a meyer on her v strom (not which meyer) and she loves that, so I cant give you and honest comparison as ive not done much with either but i can say a custom seat for you is always going to be better than an aftermarket seat built for everybody!

if that makes sense ::024::

How is the fitment of the seat? All of my other Corbin's have been a bit fiddly as their seat pans are 'close' but not a perfect replacement for the stock seat. On my TDM I ended up having to shim several of the brackets to get the seat to fit acceptably.

Got any pics of the seat mounted and of the bottom of the seat?

How is the 'tilt' of the seat...the same as stock or is it eliminated?

Getting close to buying a replacement...the stocker is now just to soft.

Thanks!

The seat fits very snug and doesn't rattle.

Honestly, I haven't put it on the low setting yet.

The tilt issue I fixed by making the forks stiffer so the bike doesn't dive when decelerating, but the seat has a slight curve to it.

As it is, I have grown to greatly appreciate Corbin.

I may shave a sliver off the sides and change the material when the rear seat is finished.

Would I have bought the seat? As I don't really need the heater, I would definitely buy it without.

The long distance test will come in January from Berkeley to Joshua Tree and back. ::001::

I have owned several Russells and ridden in 2 Corbins. I liked the corbins and they seemed to offer adequate support, but both were really broken in older seats. I bought Russells because they really set up a seat in a way that helps me maintain a neutral sitting spine. It comes at a price though, since their seat design is like a tractor seat, very wide, but pen-ultimate comfort. I have owned sargents and I think they are good, but a 7 out of 10. Russell gets a 10.

I've have had 2 Corbins in the past. Liked them both. Some folks don't care for their "hard Saddles". Once I had a few thousand miles on them they fit like a glove. I ordered mine yesterday ::012:: $382 to my door. A local seat guy wanted close to $200 to re-work the stock seat with memory foam and a gel pad reusing the stock cover. I don't care for the Grip material on the seat. Get's my "junk" in a bunch on long rides.

As of 10/24/2011

I believe Corbin is still needing a Super Tenere.
