Go to amazon.com and pull up the Contour HD roam camera and enter 89ROAM89 and it drops the price from $199 to $89.

if you enter the code you have to buy it or else the code wont work next time because its one per account.

How do these compare to a GoPro?
I have one of each and they both have pros and cons. One thing for sure, you won't buy a GoPro for $89. Matter of fact, I paid over $200 for my Contour when I bought it over a year ago.

Fred what comes in the box with the ContourRoam? I searched the internet and did not find what was included.

Tim, one clarification. My other Contour is the Contour HD and it came with several adhesive mounts, a battery charger, a USB cable and a micro SD card. In reading the reviews about the Roam on Amazon, it looks like it doesn't come with a memory card. On my HD, I bought a larger capacity card anyway, so will get another for the Roam. Also I was reading that there is a clitch with sound recording level on the Roam and Contour says they will have a firmware update for that, if they haven't already done that. My HD records great sound level when I use it on my dirt bikes, but on the road bike, it gets too much wind noise, so I have adjusted the sensitivity down for that. I have had very good customer support wiith my HD and expect to with this camera also.

Speaking of mounts, I think the Contours are best if you are considering helmet mounting the camera. My GoPro has more hardware available for mounting on the bike, but I did have to buy the additional handlebar mount to mount it to my crash bars. I will talk to the Contour folks at the Indy Dealer Show in Feb to see what additional mounts they may have available.

Here is what it says on Contour's site:

What's in the box
•ContourROAM Camera
•Rotating Surface Mount
•Profile Mount
•USB Cable

I see that they announced a firmware upgrade on Nov 10 to address the audio recording level glitch.

Also in looking at their comparison chart, it now includes a tripod mount, which is a 1/4 x 20, so one will be able to add a Ram ball for easy mounting to the bike. Also it does not include a removeable lithium ion battery, so it looks like USB charging is the only charging option, whereas my HD had a removeable battery plus an additonal charger and you could swap batteries with a spare. I never had to do that, however, since a charge would last all day of off and on recording. I do like that it is a one switch operation, just slide the switch forward to record and off to stop. You will hear a beep and double beep when you do that. With my HD, I first have to turn it on to standby mode, then slide the switch to start recording. Trouble with that is the standby mode can time out if you do not start recording for a while.

Jeeze you guys... I already have a Contour HD, which is cool but not as water resistant as they claim. The Roam is supposed to be better (but I'm wary of Contour's claims now...). So for $89 I had to get another, hopefully more waterproof one.

But it does lead me to wonder why these are being discounted so heavily so soon after their introduction. I think they only came out in August. I bought my Contour HD for $147 then, reduced from $199 ahead of the intoduction of the Roam at what, $250 or so? Now the price showing at Amazon is $147 (down from $199 yesterday when boostedtxt first posted about this). But the code still works so there's no way I'm going to complain - bargain at $89.

Just ordered myself one too, thanks!

Odd that before midnight they were down to $139, then after midnight they're now down to $134.

I think I'm with Dcstrom on this...why the sudden dumping of the product? Yes, the camera is cheap but it has no storage, and no mounts. The battery is not removable... There is definitely cause for concern here, IMO.

I am still looking forward to getting mine and comparing to my Contour HD, which is a great camera and better than my GoPro in some ways. As for storage, my HD had a small capacity micro SD, so I bought a 8G for $15, which I will do for the Roam. The Roam does have a 1/4 20 threaded mount that will accept a Ram ball, so for me that is an improvement over the HD, which didn't have a decent way to mount it to the bike that I could find. Other than that, it does include the rotating adhesive mount good for a helmet, just as the HD did and what I use, plus the profile mount, whatever that is. I can only surmise that it may have gotten a bad rap for the audio recording glitch, but in checking the Contour site, they have a free firmware update that addresses that now. I also like the one slide switch does it all feature, as I have had problems with my HD timing out when I had it in standby, but not recording. We shall see, but for $89 delivered, I had to go for it.

I watched a few "unboxing" videos on Youtube and it looked like the only thing it came with was the flat profile mount, not a rotating one. Even so if it's threaded to accept a Ram ball then that's good enough.

What's in the box
•ContourROAM Camera
•Rotating Surface Mount
•Profile Mount
•USB Cable

This youtube video shows the mounts in the box:

Ok, I got my camera this evening. Pretty cool. You do need to buy a micro SD card, though. I'll pick up an 8G at Wally World tomorrow for about $15. It has some charge on the battery already, as the lazer lights up when you press the button on the back for aiming. I had to watch the video again to see how to get the access door open. :D

That's kool beans , Fred! I ordered mine yesterday. The Amazon vendor wouldn't send to APO, so I put my seldomly used forwarding service to use. I noticed there's a waterproof housing availble and might pick that up later.

The Roam is claimed to be waterproof, so shouldn't need the optional housing that must be used with the other models if you need something waterproof.
