Evening all,

At the risk of dredging up an old topic (there are many threads on heated grips), has anyone had any success connecting up non OEM grips to the plug and play sockets on a 2014 bike?
I'm sure i read it on here somewhere, where a guy in Colombia soldered in some Puig grips to the plug and play grey & black plugs.

I have some Daytona grips that i'd like to try, but dont want to melt anything..!

In theory, you can fit the appropriate plugs and control the heat from the digi-dashboard menu control on the bars.

Any ideas?

Cheers from London.

I did on mine 2012, so yes it is different. But here is my question, do you think the engineers built it to only withstand an OEM grip heater? What is the difference between yours and theirs? As long as it does not pull more amperage than specified it will be ok. For someone to say I did it wrong as I hooked it up the the OEM plugs I call BS.

I did it with Oxford grips and it did not work. The dash identified them and showed the different levels of heat, but the grips themselves never got hot. I think the Yamaha grips have virtually zero resistance and the Oxfords were around 6 ohms, if I remember correctly. You will have to find grips with very little resistance, (probably less than 2 ohms) if you want them to work. You can change either the connectors on your wiring harness to match the grips connectors, or visa versa.

According to my service manual this is the specs on the factory heated grips:
Left : 1.21-1.48 ohms
Right: 1.17-1.43 ohms
This is when checked at the plugs, so I guess the slightly longer cable on the left grip gives a bit more resistance.
