Evening all,

At the risk of dredging up an old topic (there are many threads on heated grips), has anyone had any success connecting up non OEM grips to the plug and play sockets on a 2014 bike?
I'm sure i read it on here somewhere, where a guy in Colombia soldered in some Puig grips to the plug and play grey & black plugs.

I have some Daytona grips that i'd like to try, but dont want to melt anything..!

In theory, you can fit the appropriate plugs and control the heat from the digi-dashboard menu control on the bars.

Any ideas?

Cheers from London.

Yes it is an easy fix. The plug on the bike is supplied with the " male " clicked in place but without wires. I have some of the pins needed to complete the plug, if you pm me your address I will post some to you.
Cheers

check the resistance of the grips you want to use...

According to my service manual this is the specs on the factory heated grips:
Left : 1.21-1.48 ohms
Right: 1.17-1.43 ohms
This is when checked at the plugs, so I guess the slightly longer cable on the left grip gives a bit more resistance.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate you taking the time for this.

Midlife - Thanks mate, i'll PM you.

Bryce - I'll test the Daytona grips for the Ohms, what would constitute unacceptable resistance do you think?
(Ohm's law was never my strong point, after my father insisted on explaining it to me one morning, when i was a young twentysomething lad suffering with the world's worst hangover..!)

Lower resistance and they may not heat up... Slightly higher and they may get really hot. Much Higher and they may start overloading/overheated no stuff.

.....just noticed yours is a 2014 model, so although the grips will work, I am not sure wether the dash controls will be compatible... Hopefully someone else can offer some advice. I will send the pins to you regardless.
Cheers

They should work, but may involve a bit more than just plug-an-play. I believe the chap you refer to had to splice into a wire to have them work off the dash, but he did succeed. Would be worth while doing a forum search as he had a pictorial too.

DogDaze, i think you're right of course, i have searched the threads and indeed he's spliced into something..?

I guess i assumed that he'd done that because he didnt have the right plugs, so i wonder what you'd have to do to fit them with the plugs?

I'll attach the photos he took and the link to the thread, maybe you guys can fathom it out, as we've already established that i'm an electrics moron..!
