Any of you do the COBDR on a Tenere?

I see there is one in the video trailer but wondering if any of you could tell me how tough it was on the big bike.

I have only found one ride report with a Tenere but the guy blew his clutch two days into the ride and never finished his report.

I'm a good rider on pavement and fair off pavement. Nothing in the video looks too scary. Does the video highlight the toughest parts or is there harder parts not shown?

You mean besides the one used by the Touratech guy who did it on the video? Cause he did it on a S10…

Right now 4 of us from this board are planning to do it around the end of July, beginning of August. We have lots of details to work out...

I've done the COBDR on my Tenere. The bike handled it with ease, but the rider got his ass kicked
It's a big bike to take over some of those passes, it will do them, but make sure you bring a friend to help you pick up the bike when you drop it :D

I did it again the following year on a DR650 and had a much more enjoyable time, I just couldn't bring the kitchen sink, and definitely missed the comfort, AND power.

I have never done anything like the COBDR (or the TAT). How do you guys think a bike such as a BMW G650 Sertao would do on this route?

Yep, besides him.

Being in the video that is meant to sell the map/dvd and being the owner of Touratech I figured there was a chance he was either a super star rider or might have a bias since he makes $$$$ off of Tenere accessories.

I was looking for opinions from a normal shmoe like me who has done it ::001::.

Looking to do it solo around mid July. I have an xr650L that would be a better bike the trail but I'd rather not slab on it from Va. Beach and back. Hoping the Tenere packed light would be good enough. Doing it solo does add a little to my concern.

I don't know the exact route but I believe it goes over Cinnamon and Hagerman Passes, I wouldn't do it without a friend. I have ridden over both two up and was fine but still wouldn't do it alone.

Make friends!!!!! Just a few posts back some guys on this forum are going about the same time you want to. Read the last several pages of the Colorado Rally 13 thread. There is some first hand Tenere info. Hope you get to go! No place like Colorado

Steve you ride places two up that would get me divorced ;D and I'll add you ride places two up I'm not sure I could ride solo

I'll be your friend!! ::014::

Hey pal, can I borrow 20 bucks? :D

I have the same issue, and it is more than just risk of injury -- a small issue when riding friends can be major by yourself (for example your gps failing). You have to pack a bit more thoroughly, be self-sufficient and maybe a a bit more careful on riding.

I do a lot of traveling by myself, and do enjoy the total freedom.

It's only as tough as you make it in your mind. I don't know if anyone else blew their clutch off this forum in Colorado, but I had a basket spring failed in Ouray. Tenere is good for anything as long as it holds up and you are able to keep your security bay shut. Just have a good skid plate, drive shaft cover, some spare parts like shifter, levers. I made a mistake of stopping on the ophir pass to look around on the rocky side coming up and dropped her on launch. Have 2 deep grooves in the drive shaft cover since. It's all good. Worse case just leave it there and get another one when you get home. ::008::
