Clutch lever and mirrors.

Hello people, so Ive only ridden my 2018 S10 a couple hundred kilometers over the first two weeks of ownership. There are two things I would like to change and was wondering if anyone has done similar changes. Firstly the knob on the end of the clutch lever rubs annoyingly on my little finger. I'm figuring on rides with lots of gear changes this is going to end up being painful. Has anyone fitted a longer clutch lever? Secondly, has anyone fitted after market mirrors? Two much elbow in mine no matter which way I adjust them and the shape isn't to my liking.
Thanks,

you can buy mirror extenders off ebay for a few pounds they extend them out 30-40 mm works great. also for visibilty the gen 1 mirrors are better than gen 2

rob
Thanks Bimota. I was wondering if anyone had tried the extenders and if they were any good. Might investigate sourcing some gen 1 mirrors.

yes

been using the xtentions for a few years they really work you can raise them and push them out about 30mm depends on what you buy to be honest, and the gen 1 mirrors are a better mirror for viewing

don,t for get about the left and right handed threads to, my mirrors when taken off the threads on the mirrors are both right handed,
so i needed the small adaptors as well 1 left handed thread and 1 right handed thread, these small adaptors have a thread at the bottom to thread into the mirror mounts on the handle bars one side is left handed and 1 side is right handed thread,
once these small adaptors are in place the opening at the top for the mirrors to screw into are both right handed for the 2 right handed mirrors to screw into.
these are the adaptors i bought off amazon.

and these are the extenders i bought off ebay

I guess I'm an oddball. I put on gen 2 mirrors and sold the gen 1 mirrors. I liked the gen 2 mirrors so much I put a set on my KLR.

Some folks actually go with shorter clutch levers and use a 2 or three finger pull. I cut about an inch off mine and JB welded the tip back on. You could grind the knob down too. I'm not aware of longer levers.

I have the mirror extensions on my generation 2, also had them on my previous generation 1, they do help a little.
Both generation mirrors are pretty lousy but generation 1 are slightly better in my opinion.

www.luckybike.com is a good source for mirror extensions. I've used these on multiple Yamaha bikes now. Some bikes can use the other type of extension like THIS too.

Hi Rob, thanks for the heads up on the left hand thread. Fortunately I'm not one to heave away on something that isn't undoing. Always wise to stop and work out why.

you may find your happy with your gen 2 mirrors once you have extensions on them

I think I'll give the extension a go first and see (pun intended) what that does for the mirrors. Maybe They will be ok when I can't see my elbows. I fitted some mirrors from a Honda ST1100 to my CBF1000 after I broke one of the originals. They were longer than the stock mirrors and made a huge difference to seeing whats behind me.

Thanks holligl, I might investigate the shorter levers. There is a gap between the clutch perch and the switch block but the shape of the perch prevents it being moved closer. I'll go for a longer ride this weekend and see how annoying it is.

I took the bike for a 400km ride on Friday and the clutch lever turned out to be a non issue. I'll stick with the stock lever. The mirrors on the other hand need remedying. I'll buy some extensions as previously suggested and see how that works for me.
The bike has also developed an oil leak from the final drive seal. Oil was streaking on the rear rim and tyre. Not enough to be a problem as I know a little oil goes along way when it comes to leaks. This site has some great resources and I used Twistys instructions to remove the back wheel and sure enough its pretty damp around the out put shaft seal. I cleaned it all up and then checked the oil level in the final drive. Over flowing! So I drained it and replaced it with some new mineral based oil in case the previous service had used synthetic oil as someone suggested in another thread that synthetic oil can leak more readily. The oil that came out was the same blue colour as the oil I put in so maybe not. I will ride on and see what the outcome is. Replacing the seal sems like a straight forward job.

I have to say it is a very comfortable bike and I can see I'm going to put a lot of kilometres on it.

There is an aftermarket clutch slave cylinder which gives an easier pull might be worth looking at. Going up the box i mostly dont use the clutch.

Thanks fac191, it was just the knob on the end squashing my litle finger. I've changed the way I use the clutch lever now. Might also move to using the clutch less on up shifts too.
