Roger that, Rockhopper. I am open to anything, as well. Not sure what else is big bike friendly for off-road in the vicinity. Santiago peak (near me) is closed until September.

Any suggestions are welcome!
Is this north main divide tail?

North Main Divide is generally closed. The only open part is Ortega to Four Corners. I usually ride out of Maple Springs gate...also closed.

So far chains are required in Big Bear on 330 and 18. Looks like 38, too.

Checking the webcams in the area seems to indicate that Baldwin Lake (near trail-head) only got some light rain and snow flurries that did not stick around long. We may be able to go through Victorville and come up the back side.

Let's see how the weather pans out tomorrow and into the evening before Saturday.

Instead, maybe we could ride down to the Salton Sea and see the wasteland surrounding it. Haven't been there in years!

Sigh, I thought the rain today looked serious. I'm fine with going somewhere else too. Just let me know what you guys decide Rockhopper and Burnoil.

Ugh. This is looking bad, flooding everywhere. I think we might have to move the ride again. :'(

Update - looks to be clearing up at least in Century City.

I don't know of anything big bike friendly that is open or not flooded/snowed in at this time. I know the southern desert areas (Ocotillo Wells/Palm Springs/Salton Sea/Anza Borrego), too, but the areas I know are pretty sandy for our heavy bikes.

The only thing I can think of right this minute is going for one of my other suggestions...the 15 north to the 18 and come up that way. Might be a small gamble as I don't know the road conditions after this storm. Saturday is supposed to open up in regards to weather.

Just thought of this: Cleghorn Trail off of the 15 just before Cajon Pass.

It does get snow, but not sure if the snow came down that low.

I have done it on the bike. Similar terrain to Cactus Flats as far as difficulty...maybe easier. There are some difficult trails that split off, but the main trail easily bypasses anything crazy. It dumps out on 138 near Silverwood Lake. I'll check snow reports...

We can try it. Worst case scenario we'll drop the bikes or turn back. It's somewhat close anyway and I did the easy trail once about 5 months ago. Very easy stuff, but I didn't try the "hard" trail, even though I wanted to.

We could meet here: https://www.google.com/maps/@34.3091437,-117.4703302,235m/data=!3m1!1e3

There are other trails on the other side of the 15, near Lytle Creek, that we could explore if we get bored. Not sure where they are as I was just following some friends as they led, but they're there.

Ok, sounds good. Cleghorn it is. Same time... 10am or ?

I've been on Lytle Creek, but not since 2005. Some parts are very rocky, but it depends on the particular trail. Still fun to check out if we want. I will see you at the Chevron station. Hopefully VgnSTRider87 can join us, too.

LOL...looks sunny and partly cloudy in Big Bear. Tomorrow's weather looks like a high of 52 and partly sunny! Latest weather cam at Baldwin Lake looks really nice.

We are such worriers!

I'm in guys. So we're meeting at that Chevron in Phelan near Cajon Junction at 10am?

Btw, need some advice - Leave the top case and panniers on or take them off? I have the stock ones.

Sweet! Glad you could come along! Yep, 10am at the Chevron.

I am running with a top case http://seahorsecases.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=S&Product_Code=SE-630&Category_Code=SE_CASES

(made by Seahorse, a Pelican competitor) to carry lunch/water/tools, etc...I would say leave the panniers at home for this trip and maybe carry your top case. Probably have a light backpack, too, to carry my phone and other stuff.

Ride safe you LA guys!

How do you mount that top case?

Used two holes already on the rear plate and then drilled two more for a total of 4 mount points. Then used some nuts and bolts with lock washers. You can see it tomorrow.

Very good ride today! It was windy, cold and muddy. Lots of clouds at the peak.

VgnSTRider87, you did great today on that muddy trail. Now you have street cred showing off a legit dirty bike :)

Hope to ride with you guys again, soon.
