Hello all !
I am looking at giving my 2011 S10 electricals including all points fuse block etc under the shrouds a good clean as i recently travelled through Africa from Cape Town to Kenya and back that was just over 26 000Km through dust, mud conditions and would like to clean under the shrouds or cowells. Is lectra clean okay to use or just blow out with air? Thanks in advance.

I have used the electrical contact cleaner with out issues. the thing to watch out for is to make sure the bike is blown out first to get the heavy stuff out then wash it and then use the electrical cleaner. I have ran into a situation where things were really nasty and the electrical cleaner loosened up the grim and then it formed into traces to ground. Not a bit deal if your grime is non conductive though. Of course I do not wash my bike very much. It stays a mess. I really haven't had electrical issues on this one.

Blowing it out with air is a good start, then a wash.
Be aware that every now & then somebody will wash the bike then have trouble starting because they get water down the spark plug wells.
After that, contact cleaner can't hurt most anything. "Most" because some brands can harm paint.

Thanks for your information. I have today purchased o-rings for the spark plug coil sticks to seal the wells using 914 7/8in Nominal outside Dia as i read these are pretty effective keeping water out them wells.

Make sure the electrical contact cleaner you use says “plastic safe” somewhere on the label.

some folks just don’t know enough to avoid spraying water into the spark plug wells and all kinds of other places, Yamahas rather foolish spark plug well design contributes to the problem.
