I'm looking at a leftover 2017 vs a (soon to be leftover) 2018...the '18 is $1,000 more. Does anyone know what changes were made to the '18 model, if any?

I'm also undecided between standard and ES model.

Thanks!

I bought a 2017 model, non-ES and I don’t regret it. I ride solo and when I thought about it, how often do I really need to adjust my suspension? Once it is set for me, it just needs a little extra preload on the rear for when I tour with luggage. I still have centre stand and cruise control so it suits my needs perfectly.

Perfect logic. I'm almost the exact opposite. I ride solo MOST of the time; but the wife likes to ride every so often. Also, my boys like to take it out occasionally, and they are substantially lighter than I. The only consistent thing about our roads is the inconsistency. Adjustability is the key. Ironically, a key feature that I wanted was factory heated handgrips. For twenty years I HAD to ride in the cold; now, not so much. For these reason I chose the ES.

I suppose there is some small difference in how the rubber parts will have aged. Wouldn't matter much, at worst, and might take 7 or 8 years before aging parts get brittle.

Vehicles age even when not on the road, I'm afraid.

The heated grips are only on the ES. But both trim levels get the cruise.
You can also easily add heated grips to a standard Gen 2, as they are controlled by the ECU and become active once they are plugged in. Members have found it cheaper to piece together the Gen 2 heated grips rather than buy the kit.

Wait, I found it! I ran out right after replying and looked for a switch, decided it must be in the menu and remembered the one screen has a grip on it.

BOOM! Heated grips!

Awesome lol I had no idea.
You can go into the “sub” menu and make the settings what you want on a scale of 1-10. 10 being the hottest. Pretty neat I think.

I think I have the Ténéré set low=3 mid at 6 and high at max. So take a stab and then try them.

I just got a Venture Transcontinental and made the same settings for rider seat heat. Turned it off after 10-15 minutes. Next stop low got set down to 1!

How do I get into that menu? Mine just has the little grip and when I push the button I get 1 2 or 3 arrows pointing up.
