Don't have a manual yet. How do I get that stupid center hose off the bottom of the air box, so I can lift it out?

Nevermind. Instead of disconnecting at the box I disconnected downstream. Hope I get it back together.

Followup. I've never had a bike this difficult to work on. Worst engineering from that perspective I've ever seen. Coming most recently from an ST1300, a 1200GS, and an RT.

I got it disconnect down where it meets the engine. Pulled the plugs and replaced. Glad I did. Looks like someone went for a swim.

That's about what the coil looked like too. Bike ran fine, I'd have never known it was such a mess. A testament to "Just add oil and gas and ride".

I'd like to meet the guy who planted the plug caps down in that abyss and close to the frame. I think he needs a good boot to the junk.

That's a concern. Yamaha has usually been good about keeping the plug holes drained... or sealed.

Those caps sit pretty snug, so it seems it would take lots of exposure time for water to get in or maybe pressure washing. I'll check it again in 24K when my knuckles heal from this time around.

i haven't seen or looked at the spark plugs, but am wondering if the plug and coil which are looking wet are the far left plug which when the bike is on the side stand it leans over to the left and collects water.

Agreed. A light coat of silicone grease where the rubber sealing flange meets the valve cover might be the ticket here.

Good call. It was the far left plug. Maybe that's the issue. Or a contributor at least.

Hummm....? i just changed my plugs after 15k and the far right one looked like it had water sitting under the coil. Not sure why? the rest looked good on the outside of the plug. As for the plug wear and over all condition, they looked like I could of got another 15k out of them before needing to be changed. The center hose under air box was always in the way not to mention getting it hooked back up to the air box. It was nice to explore the area :)
