I was just about to order a Cee Bailey headlight guard since it is fairly new on their website. It is $59.95 which sounded reasonable. But the shipping is a standard $22 for the lower 48. Doesn't that seem high for this fairly small bit of plastic? Whatcha think?

If that's UPS ground, it does seem high. My Parabellum windshield is only $14 to ship but it's coming from GA not CA.

I think that is really high. Probably have a large handling fee. I don't buy from companies that put large handling fees on their shipping.
I would be more likely to purchase if they would just put the amount in the price.

Well I placed the order and low and behold not only free shipping but $6 discount for total price of $53.95 . I am a happy camper about that ::012::. I guess you guys can jump on that in the next 24 hours.

Sounds less expensive than the factory clear guard.... no matter what people get, just protect those lights... They are expensive if a rock hits one...

Comes to nearly $47 with shipping so the weekend special from Cee B. is all good too. I took advantage of the free shipping and 10% discount and ordered a windscreen.

Edit: over the past nearly 40 years riding, I have never cracked a headlight cover. Perhaps I am just lucky. If I did, they are $5.61 to replace and a bulb is $12. Do wJe need to spend $50 to protect $5?

If something big enough took out more than a cover and bulb, I suspect the rider has much more to worry about!

What part exactly is $5.61?

I suspect the web site is not set up very well and it's charging the same shipping for a headlight guard as it would for a screen. I bet a phone order would get you the correct shipping. Or use the recently revealed discount code ;D

The clear plastic cover in front of the bulb. Check one of the yamaha parts supplier websites to see exactly if still not clear.

Hmmm - well the only parts in this diagram that are close to $5.61 are the covers (number 3) around the bulb connectors - they are $5.80 each.

It looks like the lenses - the parts that we are trying to protect - are part of the whole assembly, which can be had for a mere $434.39

FWIW, there is a secondary benefit to a headlight cover/guard. Over time and miles, the plastic or glass of headlights tends to get scarred by debris, especially if, like me, you ride through a sandstorm. It's far cheaper to replace the headlight cover/guard than the headlights. A big hit isn't always the reason for such a need. And yes, I have a guard, it's the Yamaha one, ordered via Canada.

I do see some benefits of the Cee Bailey version over the Yamaha one, and some detractions. Closer to the headlight, so less debris getting blown between them and less glare at the edges. I don't have an issue with glare, but it has been mentioned on some threads in the past. I don't really like the stick on velcro for this, as I pull mine off and clean it often, but I've also not heard of people having a problem with these on the FJR version by Cee Bailey, so that's just my pet peeve.

OK got mine - the "thanks2011" code still works. I was going to get the Touratech steel mesh one, since I'd had a perspex Ventura guard on the Strom. It didn't fit well and the velcro tabs were a PITA when the the adhesive stopped working. I actually lost one once, but then went and bought a new one.

Then Eric made the point about the lenses getting sandblasted (and this would happen with the mesh type guard) so I decided to go with the Cee-Baileys. I think they are better quality than the ventura, and anyway the Touratech is twice the price. So we will see...

Also, they get a good review here;
