Caught my second DUI driver of the year!

Around here red light runners are getting to be common. Also lane changes to pass in front of you requiring sudden decel to avoid being taken out. No offense to our law enforcement members here but the motor cops and CHP seem to be the only ones doing anything to stop this behavior. [RACIST CONTENT DELETED - CW]

And the last month we have someone who is randomly shooting out windows of cars on the freeway. At least a few a day for the last month. Also kids dropping rocks on freeway overpasses.

1) Motor cops are usually a little more motivated than the average patrol officer. They got to be in Texas if they plan on riding in our summers.
2) Not all patrol officers are created equal.
3) Patrol, much of the time, is running from call to call, with more calls waiting.
4) Working traffic in a car is damn near impossible, especially in heavy traffic.
5) CHP has plenty of time to work traffic, 'cuz they don't take calls like stolen bicycles, there's a snake in my car, and Dominos didn't put enough pepperonis on my pizza.

yesterday as I was driving to the airport to pick up my wife I notice a strange motorcycle coming up behind me .... some squid on a duel sport riding a wheelie at 65 mph and he was changing lanes between cars on one wheel . he got close to one car but manage to veer away and finally on the off ramp he puts the front wheel down . he was on that back wheel for 3 plus miles at 65 mph and you know what the car drivers are thinking .he is heading to his own funeral but doesn't know it . idiots abound out there.
35 years ago. That would be me on a hopped up 2 stroke RZ350. Left hide on the road a few times. I was cruzing thru town doing 40 the other day. A real small guy pulled up beside me and jumped off his a crotch rocket and skied beside it about 5 stripes down the road and flew back on it.

Ah yes, to be young, dumb, and care free again. Kids today doing what we did will go to jail instead of having the cops call the parents to pick them up. My Dad was an ex-Marine D.I. and I had more fear for what he would do than any cop.

Wrong side of the road hits the median a few times.... Nothing too dramatic, but thought I'd share.

Police and I had a good chuckle about the way he did the walk and turn test. @Sierra1 we dubbed it "The spring walk" Hard to see in the second video but he was bending the HECK out of his knees trying to absorb any wobble. Didn't even bother to do the turn. Dude actually consented to a blood draw after completely failing the FST.

Is that a thing in the US to follow people around and be like the police? Not sure what I'm seeing here. Cops over here wouldn't appreciate your assistance and the public hate dobbers. Can I assume you NEVER break the law, even a little bit? Not 5 miles an hour over the speed limit?

Sadly that just happened in my old home town.....Darwin 1, Squid 0

"A motorcyclist is dead after a crash with an SUV on Jefferson Road at Route 390 in the town of Henrietta. It happened around 9 p.m. Thursday when deputies say the motorcyclist, a 25-year-old man, was speeding while heading east on Jefferson when he popped a wheelie and crashed into the SUV, which was turning onto the southbound ramp of 390."

Yes I've rode over the speed limit, eased through a stop sign, I've even been know to pop a little wheelie in my younger days, but comparing someone driving 5 mph over the speed limit to a drunk driver is crazy. I would bet that almost everyone knows someone that was killed or crippled by a drunk driver so you can bet your ass that over here when we see a drunk driving down the wrong side of the road, we become dobbers, whatever in the hell that is.

Law enforcement here actively encourages the public to report dangerous behavior on our roadways. I know I have called in a few myself, especially here in Vegas where we have drivers with all kinds of bad habits.

No I wasn't acting like the police. I was acting like a citizen concerned for the welfare of others. Maybe you would like to see this guy plow into oncoming traffic, or hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk? Me, Im going to act when I see a danger to my community. As this guy clearly was.

This is not the case of someone driving 5mph over the limit, This is a case of a person RECKLESSLY putting lives in danger. If you don't see the difference in that, no one here can help you.

My dad was too. He went to his grave at 92 and still mad at the Japanese for what they did to them. I was riding with him to work on the farm one day in the 70's. We were behind a man that survived the Batann death march. He was driving a Toyota truck. My dad said "how can he drive that truck after what they did to him?" Dad could yank that skinny belt off faster than a calf roper could rope a calf and wear that ass out.

Drunk driving can be a tragedy in the making.

5mph in the wrong place can be a tragedy in the making.

Both are reckless...
Don't forget tired driving/asleep at the wheel. It's surprising how many deaths are caused by it each year. But, it's not prosecuted. If any of mine are hurt/killed by someone that shouldn't be behind the wheel . . . .

Much of it has to do with attitude IMHO. Most collisions have a human element and to be able to look at yourself and ask, "what did I do to contribute to that" is the most important element to not making the same mistake again.

The biggest eye-opener for me was when I became a driving instructor. Even though the UK has one of the most stringent driving tests in the world, I was quite shocked when a student that had put in for their test too early passed. With no serious or dangerous faults, they had a licence and were out on the streets. I vowed then to never buckle to pressure, as I could potentially endanger lives. From that point forwards, prior to any student going for a test I would ask myself, "if they pass will my brother's kids be safe tomorrow?" If the student or their parents insisted they could find another school.

I know I bang on a bit, but driving/riding is a serious issue with serious consequences, that I do not want anyone to meet with. However, I would always advocate making swift, safe progress and enjoying - as much as is possible - the drive or ride. And, at every possible 99% opportunity of an overtake that is "on", abort...

There is always the next time...

Now, consider a place where driving a car, on a public road, before you even have a license, is almost considered a right of passage. You're correct about it being connected to attitude. The most prevalent being "it won't happen to me". And, then, when it does. . . . it's not their fault. They will always seek to shift the blame.

Yeah, that right thing makes me cringe.

The I'm-not-at-fault crowd generally have another incident within a three year period if I recall correctly (UK stats)

I am not advocating riding wheelies in traffic but sometimes I wish I was good enough to ride a wheelie at 65mph for 3 miles.

Too late now, I'd never survive the learning curve at this age.

You've got to be pretty wasted to drive on the wrong side!
The thing that I've been seeing a LOT of around here is people smoking weed while driving. Saw/smelled four the other day on the highway in early morning rush hour (6:00am).

Alcohol impairs your motor skills, and makes you drive on the wrong side of the road. Weed doesn't impair your motor skills, but makes you paranoid as hell, so hopefully they'll stay on the right side of the road.
