Caribou panniers are wider than handlebars?

Hello Tenerarians,

About to pull the trigger on a set of panniers. The choice of which definitely seems like one of the most agonized over decisions. I am looking at either Bumot or Caribou panniers. Could somebody on this forum confirm whether the Caribou panniers are definitely wider than the handlebars?

Thank you!

Chris

Yes, they look great. In case of a nap the Caribou might care better maybe?

I have the 40L cases and I feel confident they can take a big hit. Having the breakaway latch probably spares the case in the event of a higher speed crash, not sure how the Bumots latch. And they are warranteed for LIFE!

Looking at my setup with Givi racks, the bars are wider than bags. I've been very pleased with my purchase as they've worked as advertised, were affordable and easy to live with. Just carry an extra latch around with you when you go.

Never had a hi speed get off (thanks!!!!!) but I have tipped my bike over (I am short) many time and the Caribou take a good beating. Did I mention the life time warranty? Maybe some one else will.........

It depends on which size Caribou cases you get. I think the 40L might be wider but the 35L and 25L cases are definitely narrower.

I owned the 35L set for a year or so before switching to soft luggage.

And are the Givi racks the way to go for the Caribou cases? Does one need to make any modifications to the racks in order to install the setup?

You have several choices for racks, the Givis are priced reasonably and mount up easily. The only mod was to remove the Givi mount and replace with the Caribou latch tab.

Ive got a pair of 35L Caribou's mounted on the Hepco Becker racks and couldnt be happier. They do take a beating without any problem, tried and tested.

I like the Hepco racks because there is a little more room in there to take advantage of additional tool boxes, etc.
