Installed one today, just the plate, no top case. Looks great, other then the 2 hex bolts caps that are now sticking out at the top (rear) like sore thumbs. Will be replacing those with something nicer. So good looking plate indeed, plenty of holes for bungees. I am not so sure about mounting architecture though. I'll post pics later but basically the caribou plate is lifted off the stock plastic plate by spacers placed into a triangle, one front and 2 rear. Sides are not supported, especially in the front, so if you have something more or less heavy hanging off the plate, maybe a big bag that doesn't exactly fit, the plate is gonna feel it, it's not super stiff either. Also instructions could be better and the order of installing hardware can be different to make things easier, installing support braces upfront is a lot easier then doing it at the end. If you do it at the end, you will not be able to use the torque wrench.
Oh and I got left a spare fender washer ::)

Pics when you get a chance and have you investigated using the rack for any other top box than caribou. I'm looking for a rack that will accept any flat bottomed top box without being permanently mounted. So far only one choice that I've found and it is neither elegant nor cheap.

Cheers

The Caribou top plate has brackets that index on the feet of the caribou top case to locate it. It uses 1/4 turn fasteners that release easily to remove the case. I'm pleased with mine.

The plate is pretty large. I never mounted top box, but I think any top box pretty much mounts with something either coming up from under the rack into the case bottom and something from inside the case bolts onto that, or has some kind of widgets that are mounted to plate and case and it slides or locks in. In any case this plate is big enough to mount any kind of top case if case hardware allows for alternate plates. Or you can make your own mounts, similar to what happy trails use for side cases with that knob. This plate already has plenty of various sized holes, but I am sure you can drill your own if those are not where they need to be. I already figured a way to support the sides on the front part without any additional bolts by using these self stick hard rubber stoppers. But anyway, I don't plan on putting a lota weight on it anyway, I don't want to turn the bike into a fish.....no a whale :D
will post pics first thing in the morning after I locate usb cable...darn thing just keeps jumping in and out of this reality's frequency range recognizable by my body's frequency readers you refer to as eyes. ::003::

Overall I am quite happy with the plate as well, just noticed a few things while mounting it and pressing on it, especially if one leaves it as is, aesthetically speaking, just two hex head sticking out kind of spoils the view of this really beautiful plate. I do not plan on using the case on top at all. More like a bag or bag and set of tires at the top when I travel.
