I have a 2012 that just hit 18,000miles in 1.5 years. I ride a lot off rod and on gravel or fire service roads in Georgia, and I am not light on the throttle. I have had the bike in for the head light harness until 3 weeks ago.
I was having erratic idle speeds (from dying out to 3500rpm). That's a lot of fun, let me tell you! The shop looked it over and it turns out that I had a faulty throttle body ($1,200 USD just for the part). After the tech talked to Yamaha we found that it was covered under an EPA 5 year 18,600 mile warranty. This only covered the parts but the shop cut me a deal for labor, $350. Now the bike runs very well.
Side note, my steering stem bolt in now loose as I can hear the clunk in the front end during hard braking or big rocks / curbs.
