Hi all-
I haven't ever had a top case and am wondering if I need to purchase a different tail plate in order to mount either a Pelican case or a Givi plastic box to it.

Thanks!

Hi Jeff-
What I mean is--do I need to take the plastic piece out from under the metal rack I would put the case on? The sticker on it says it only supports 10 lbs or so.

Many have used the AltRider tail rack to mount stuff to.

I noticed Revzilla has the AltRider stuff marked funny. Their Pillion Rack and the Tail Rack are good back to Origin, 2010. The crash bars may or may not have that wide a fitment. Same with their belly pan. If you check out the AltRider web site you might be able to confirm part numbers across the years.
Confirmed; racks are the same, crash bars are the same, headlamp screen is the same, skid plate is different.

Yeah-I'm curious too.

Oh, what would be even better--provide visual evidence that the tail rack stinks!

Search this forum and you might find a photo or two of broken OEM tail racks. Common sense should provide the rest. Read the load rating on the OEM tail rack. Personally I like the looks of the OEM tail rack and would keep it if I was going to use it only for an inline dry bag. The problem is putting too much load on plastic tail rack and then bouncing it down the road.

I'll take a photo of my cracked rack hung up on my wall.
I tried to mount a Caribou top box on it and, BOOM...cracked in two places.

Just sharing MY experience. YOUR mileage may vary.
