Kind of a rhetorical question but I have 2 rides left to do this year for some goals I have set. One is about 1300 miles and the other about 1600 miles. My rear Tourance tire has ummm... 1mm of tread depth remaining? Or so??? I can't find any wear bars in the center. Guess they didn't put any there ::013:: Should I? Can I?

Guess it is replace time :-[

Every bodies different but I change tires when they don't inspire confidence. I might ride to the grocery store on 1mm but I wouldn't go out of town. Oil and tires seem cheap to me in the big scheme of things.

Tires and brakes are the two things that stand between a good ride and a bad day. Me, I'd go for new tires, ya can never be too safe!

Yea I know. I ordered up a rear Tourance Next to try something different. So far:
Tourance EXP - replaced at 5k
K60 - 11k to the Yukon rally and back Still have the front for whenever.
Anakee 2 rear 3 front - 9k riding mountain west curvy roads. Anakee 2 good, front A3 yucky
Tourance 10k rear, front has tons left rode from ID to Miami FL and then up to midwest and back so you can guess the rear wore flat.

Next is next.

I would guess you could get through half of the first ride. If you have someone on the other end that can replace them when you get there, that would be a bonus, otherwise replace before the trip(s).
Hopefully it's dry weather too. 8)

Don't agree BUT...

Just finished a ~4000 mile ride. Thought I had enough rubber to make it. Bad call. The good news? Found a dealer (Blitz Motor Sports) in Bozeman MT that had tires in my size in stock. It was expensive and they were TKC 80's. There was more left than expected when I got home, however my ride was not put in the weeds and all is well.

Blitz was awesome, got me in and out same afternoon. I just aint used to paying retail.

You can find great parts and service out on the road, may not be exactly what you want, may be a few bux more than you are used to spending. The learning fro me was don't sweat it, There's a Yammi dealer not too far away that can and will help.

New rear going on Friday morning and then off to Glacier NP then Great Falls, Billings, Custer and back across the Bighorns and YNP. Hoping there is no snow this weekend that is.

Those last couple mm of tread went FAST on this not made in Germany Tourance. Much faster than I would ever have expected. The first 8000 miles the wear was good and then ouch! Opposite from K60's.

I say go for it! It makes about as much sense as riding your bike thru a river with water up to your headlights.
If that tire blows out then you have bragging rights to how you saved it while you were riding alongside an 18 wheeler!
YOU WOULD BE THE MAN!

Owing a motorcycle is like owning a boat, you have to dump cash on things needed at high prices.
You sound like your worried about this and having mixed Ideas. What fun is that when your chomping at the bit thinking did I do a stupid thing or not while your booking down the highway!!

Put on a new set of tires or at least the rear, I am thinking a $90.00 Shinko for one last fling.. :D
