Okay folksingers...who's had them both?
Which one.did you like better and why?
Does the naca duct on the CalSci help in anyway, and if so, why doesn't the Parabellum have one?

Give me the real stuff folks.

I am ready to purchase...now.!
TIA

I have the CalSci +71/2". I am 6'-3" and sit very tall in the saddle (long waisted). I wish it were 2" taller but then it really would be long and skinny. Much improvement over stock. No buffeting, no back pressure. Quiet. The people at CalSci are the best in the world to work with. Their website has MUCH good stuff to read and learn. I have the accessory knobs CalSci offers and makes changing, cleaning, etc very simple. One minute, no tools and the windscreen is off the bike. Sorry I can't give a comparison.

I have the Parabellum and it plain ass works. Charly is great to work with and has a 30 day guarantee. The quality is outstanding and when I first saw mine mounted all I could say was how great it looks on the S10. It has an aircraft type of quality about it.

Can't make a comparison but i've got the Calsci XL, i'm 6ft 7 and i find it is miles better than stock, quiet, no buffeting, well made, fitted easily first time. No complaints from me.

the guys from parabellum told me my mpg would increase but id never checked it before i changed the shield so after a week with the parabellum and an average of 42.7mpg for the last two tankfuls i put the stock shield back on for a few days and made my usual trips with it for two tank fulls, result? 39.4mpg so Charley and the boys were right!

ive never really checked my mpg since i know my bikes usually wont do what my car does (i have a jetta TDi) so i dont like to look but this was just an experiment, i worked out it by filling it to the brim and re setting the trip meter then dividing how many miles i did by how many gallons i bought not by using the computer on the bike but it was almost spot on both times ::008::

I'm relatively new to using windshields. I purchased a medium Cal Sci and the buffeting seemed excessive so I moved it up in the support. Now the major buffeting is gone but I have the gap at the bottom and worry about rain blowing through there. Replacing it with a large screen will allow me to close the gap while keeping the same height. So my question is: Did raising the screen make the big difference or was it the 1 1/2 inch gap at the bottom relieving the vacuum? Anybody have experience with this?

GaryAA,

First, welcome to the forum! I bet you will find it to be a valuable source of information about the Tenere.

Screen size is a compromise. The larger screen might eliminate the buffeting at the cost of air flow to keep you cool. I see your are from the Nothwest so this may not be an issue for you. But it is worth considering. I have WAY smoother air flow on my FZ1 vs either the Super Ten-ere or the ST1300, but the trade off is a greatly reduced amount of wearer protection. It is an individual decission based on your wants and needs. Having a gap at the bottom will help with the back pressure. Plus it may help limit the buffeting by shifting the still air envelope. Unfortunately there are no hard and fast rules due to the many variables involved. If you give us your height and inseem you may be able to get useful input from others who have a similar stature and have tried other options. I have a Wasp Works adjustable mount and it moves the OEM screen a little higher that stock in the higher position. It definitely reduces buffeting for me at the expense of air flow to keep me cool. Another piece of the equation is the difference the wind delflectirs make. I do not have them but am considering adding them before getting a different shield. I THINK they are less expensive than a aftermarket screen. Again this is just another possible remedy, not a proven cure. Good luck in your quest!

doesn't have it there...
CalSci has the naca duct that "should relieve" back pressures - that's why it's there...and thus my question about why the Para doesn't have it there...

I had a Parabellum on my 2000 RT and pretty much loved the thing.

I have never ever even seen the CalSci - so I know nothing about them, sadly.
Would like to ride with one fitted.
I may opt for the Parabellum simply because I've owned one previously and know the build quality.

Thanks for the information. I sized it off of the Cal Sci rider height chart. With the medium screen adjusted up, I seem to get about one half of the wind noise of just sticking my head around or above the screen. I still have a couple of inches of vision over the top of it.

I have ordered the Wasp adjustable screen bracket to try to perfect it and make for easier "bug" cleaning underneath. You have to admire the Australian humor and what Wasp has done with his bike. However, with the cost of shipping I will be looking for substitute products distributed in the U.S. in the future.

Yes, this is a fantastic site. Yesterday I was pondering how little information was "passed down" or widely available to individual riders until these forums were developed. Outside of the economy, it's a great time to be a motorcyclist.

Can you explain why you feel the Parabellum 'far away better?' I'm not doubting what you say, but details would be helpful...thanks!

Welcome to the Forum! I have the Wasp bracket and highly recommend it. There is a rumor that Madstad is also working on one for the SuperT.

I have the 24 inch Parabellum and it is awesome Fit and finish are first rate and it looks great on the bike. What's more important is that it works so well at all speeds.
