That is what I was kind of looking at doing, just one step less extreme. I would keep the fan and crash bars.

You're trying to turn a hammer into a screwdriver. Better off replacing the KTM with something more modern. The 690s are a big improvement and can be found on used market for short money.

Pic shows fine for me. It appears that the fan is in place. He has some heavy mesh over the fan. Not sure if that is a modified side cover or new fabrication.

At some point there is a practical limit to how much weight you can shave off.

I highly agree about the 19” front wheel.
If I was switching ADV bikes the Honda AFrica Twin with DCT would very likely be my choice. I would love to hear what you have to say after owning one for awhile.

You bet. Bike is getting picked up in January, and the bolt ons begin. DCT is great for road, not so much for off road. Can't replace a clutch IMO.
I'll do a full introduction write up mid january, then follow it up with more blogs...
