Oh Man,
I had a 2003 FZ-1 and I loved it.
http://www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/ For a jet kit and PJ's parts for a Mivv pipe. http://www.pjsparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=24_125_247_76&products_id=3644

Great bikes.
it's not the cleanest bike, but for the money I can't complain.
Does have a stumble under acceleration. Will pull the carbs tomorrow am, and clean them out, make sure all is well there.

I'll see if the internals are stock, as it's got a akropovic pipe on it...sounds very good.

Great brakes, and the suspenion feels very decent as well.
I'm sure once stumbling is sorted, this thing will absolutely haul ass.

The engine is 99 R1 that is retuned for more mid range. 1st gear is good for about 75 mph.

Watch the horizon disappear as all you will see is sky when the V boost kicks in ::015:: when these bikes first came out in 85, I had the opportunity to test one out and only got as far as 1st gear - quickly found out just how much torque that beast had with a pretty impressive but unexpected wheelie, turned right around and brought her back to the dealer O:) !!!! I knew even then that this bike would help me push lilies rather abruptly. ::007::

Congrats on the FZ1.

I had '92 VMax for about a year. Then I came to my senses.
Loved the way the bike looked and how it accelerated, everything else, not so much.

Well, I ripped out the carbs today, cleaned them out, and sorted out the 4500rpm stumble. Goes like the clappers.
Happy days.

What was wrong with the FZ9?
Absolutely nothing after I sorted the following:
-Crap stock suspension, front and rear $1500
-ECU Flash to sort out the snatchy on/off throttle $200

Various odds and ends that I installed to suit the bike to me.
A friend of mine rode it about 3 months back and quite liked it.
I needed a DR650, and he was willing to pay me what I had into it minus a grand.
So he gets a very well sorted bike, and I got to buy my DR650, and had 7 grand left over.
Along came the FZ1 that needed carb work and a handle bar...and now I have a FZ9 for a 1/5th of the cost.

I actually rode both bike back to back today, as Matt came over to do an oil change on the 9.
The 9 is very torque. It's a bike that keeps egging you on, and is hard to ride slow.
The FZ1 is rev hungry, and you have time to think about going fast...I like it.

Cool. And I totally understand the need for the DR. ;)

I just got a pre owned 09 last week. The PO did the shock work and a full Akro exhaust. Yammy came out with a new map so all should be sorted out. The FZ09 is a lot of fun. I find without a windscreen there's only so much speed I can endure without feeling uncomfortable. It's how I keep the speed to a moderate level. Great torque and the sound of the triple is music.

My biggest issue with the fuzzy9 was the fuelling. I sent off the ecu to Nick at Stoletec to get sorted out. For the $200 bucks it was the best money spent.
Front end is an easy fix, springs for your weight, and you're laughing. Rear end was sorted with a full adj. Penske shock. I modified my stock exhaust by drilling out the inner chamber baffle. Just about perfect. Screen is a mra touring from twisted thorttle.

for moar impression check out thetenerist.wordpress.com and search fz09

I rode them both back to back on sunday, and the 9 has instant grunt, and is oh so small, and compact. It takes nothing to wheelie the little bastard at 3500' of elevation. I still hate the seat, even though I did sponge mod.
Where as the fz1 takes a bit of time to get going, but has an insane mid and top end. The fairing helps as well, and the stock suspension is first rate for oem (full adj. at both ends). The cherry on top: It was $1900 and needed the carbs cleaned, and has a small leak on the shift box (known problem due to a shitty oem gasket design).

Nice, mine was bought out of the states. So too much of a hassle, besides, it's flashed, so it's done.
