Bought a leftover 2016 Anniversary Model and have a few questions

First in the way of an introduction. Owned many many bikes (my first was a 72 Honda trail 50, Hodaka 90, Honda SL-125, Yamaha DT-250A, and a list that stretches over 30 bikes). My current bikes include a 95 R100GSPD, a couple three of Harley's, and a new leftover 2016 ST in Yellow. I sold my 2007 GSA a few years ago and swore I'd never buy another late model Beemer.

So I'm loving the ST so far. Really happy to have a Yammy back in the barn. I do have a question or two for those who bought their ST's new. First off, I found three keyed lock tumblers under the seat. I assume those are there for the bags if you buy them. I also found a wire harness that looks like it may be for the electronic rear shock. I don't have an ES model so I'm guessing it serves no purpose on my bike. Can anyone confirm my assumptions?

I'm planning on 8" jesses, some kind of engine guards, and maybe a bash plate.

Happy to be here in this forum. Safe travels.

The locks are indeed for the factory luggage. Keyed to the ignition key.

The harness under the seat is used to read diagnostics and adjust settings with the factory tool. You can also ground one of the pins to mimic the Yamaha tool. Tutorials exist on this forum.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new bike.

Hi and welcome! :)

The 3 locks are in fact for OEM Yamaha cases. I received my XT1200ZE 2 month ago (european version) and these locks had been placed at the same place (underneath driver's seat) without any notification of the dealer, when I picked it up.

These locks can be installed very easily, I just bought a set of used side cases and installed the locks within minutes. However I needed some silicon spray to make the lack mechanism inside the OEM cases (not of the lock itself) working properly again.

Tthe connector (4 pin) underneath the driver's seat is for Yamaha service.

Enjoy your XT12 - with 3.7 Sek in 0-100km/h (62 mph) - and take care! >:D

Thanks for the help....one thing I noticed is my seat is in the low position and the "seat position adjuster" was not on the bike. I guess the dealer took it off when he put it on the show room. I'll be calling them on Tuesday about it.

'get the plastic tray, in the high position it will add a half inch or more of leg room which if you are use to GS's is apt to be welcome. It's a new bike too so you really should be given all the bits. If that doesn't do it, try a Seat Concepts seat for even more height & comfort. While we are on the subject Happy-Trail makes a protection bar that is stouter than most, ideally set up for highway pegs and a lot more reasonable than most. In fact their rear rack plate is a killer good deal.

(with a Pelican box mounted on it, that's a Parabellum tall screen by the way, another good idea).

For what it's worth the S10 reminds me of an earlier version GS or a very, very well evolved KLR. 'Not a show pony but capable of damn near anything and about as easy to break as a #5 sledge hammer....

Thanks for the comments. I've learned a lot from this site already and have performed a throttle body sync and flattened my seat. The flattened seat made a big difference.

Welcome hogmolly , One thing that wasn't covered is checking your WHEEL SPOKES for a while until thing work in , After 1000 miles or so if some didn't come lose you should be ok . Tap them with a screw driver or something and lesion for that ping. Some people wire tie them spoke to spoke just in case then all you need is the nipple. They missed checking them on my 600 check out and i broke a few . Good luck and Enjoy ::022::

I went out and checked my spokes and the rear was pretty loose...some as much as a 1/4 turn. What method do you guys use? The skip 3 method is somewhat weird the way the spokes are put in on this bike. I ended up using a skip 2 method on the inner row left, inner row right, outer row left, outer row right.
