Went out on a ride today and know of some dirt, gravel, loose, back roads. I found a nice stretch of about a mile and road it once to check it out make sure it was clear and safe, over all check out. I then turned around and brought it up to about 55-65mph.. As most of you know this bike is a DREAM and on these type roads, and at 60 mph it was awesome ! I slowed the bike down to about 40 and got on the binders pretty hard. I could feel the ABS motor but over the exhaust, rocks, I didnt hear the tires and ABS working.....
What I can say is, in these loose road conditions the bikes came to a stop FAST ! Its amazing under these circumstances it felt very stable and controlled. I was really surprised that is stopped that quickly with the road so loose...... I know many of you have experienced this already, but its one of those experiences you can read about others telling the story a hundred times, but until you feel the 'magic' you just wont know.... I and others have said this million times, I dont care, this bike is TOTALLY KICK ASS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you do a video of the [TOTALLY KICK ASS]ness of the ABS.

There are a hell of a lot of [HEY LOOK A 260KG MX BIKE] videos out there but very few dealing with the ABS at work in any detail.

Pretty please. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Cool! Thanks for sharing that moment with us Jaxon! ::022::

I have not experimented with ABS yet, but it is stories like these that give me the confidence to start experimenting too! ::020::

I can confirm what Jaxon says - First time I tried I couldn't believe the amount of acceleration and deceleration you can get on a loose surface. TCS and ABS at their best. I was going much faster, with more margin of safety, than I ever did on the V-Strom. Just awesome.

I have to agree. ABS and TCS work like a charm. I went over Cinnamon Pass in Colorado where even a KTM990 went down hard and never had a problem regarding traction or braking.

Bike is bad ass !....

Not that this has anything do to with the Super Tenere, but a customer today told me that the KX 450 moto-X bike has TCS on them now.. And launch control out of the gate......... WOWZERS.... technology is awesome on these machines...

Pictures !! I need pictures when you mention Cinnamon pass and a Tenere. Them two just go good together.

Hey Jaxon,

I did the exact same thing about two weeks ago ... found a nice little piece of gravel road and grabbed a great big hand full!

This action, as you know, goes against everything we know about riding off road, and takes a certain amount of will power to perform ... but you have to try, right? I was completely blown away at how stable and undramatic the whole stopping process was. Not to mention how fast! Then I got to thinking I prolly didn't really grab the brake that hard and chickened out. So I tried it again, and really pulled on it this time. Same wonderful magic. ::001::

Next up ... braking in corners!

Mike

Yeah your right this ABS rocks!!, I only have the Beemer to compare it to but this series ABS does a quick studder (couldn't think of a better term...but it releases and grabs very quickly) where the Beemer ABS when activated would release the brakes so much so that it gave the illusion of accelerating towards what you trying to avoid, that system still works but is quite disconcerting (scares the sh*t out of you !!) when you first experience it)....yeah I like the Tenere system mucho better...

Good report Tabasco. I am still in touring mode, LOL. Just back from Eureka Springs, AR, little over 980 miles. Going to put the Scout 60s on and run to Torrey Utah next week, think the group wants to do Burr Trail, should be pretty tame, but am glad I will be on this bike for sure.

Went poking along the just flooded old asphalt and gravel roads along the Potomac River Saturday morning. The thin layer of wet slime on asphalt was about as treacherous as it gets and NOTHING for traction from side to side. But the ABS and TCS worked great when riding a solid area and then entering spots that'd been flooded.

I sure am glad that I didn't have the FJR on that ride!

Don't s'pose that was you on Route 7 near Purcellville, heading east, around midday Saturday? I saw a Raven with OEM bags... I was going the other way, heading to WV.

Might've been if it weren't for the bags. I've only got the topcase on:

Saw lots of wash-outs like this on the small lanes. The T handled them well, but TCS and ABS do nothing for sliding sideways:

Potomac water level was WAAYYY up. This is Edwards Ferry, a key part of the Battle of Leesburg in '61 and where the Rebels would sneak across and attack the Yanks back in '64. (Umm, that's 1861 and 1864.)

It was slicker than greased pig-snot here.

Lots of muddy gravel that the Model T ate up!

I was one-up last Fri evening on slimy red clay gumbo courtesy of Tropical Storm Lee. It was not my first pick in riding surfaces on the stock bwings, but once I started up the mountain I no choice but to top out and go on over...was too steep and slick to do anything else. Was in sport mode and default TCS1 (forgot to reset after fueling). Felt about a 1/4 turn slip of the rear wheel and then it caught and plowed on. Was descending very gingerly to keep the front from washing out, but I trailed braked to adjust the line to the 4 wheel drive ruts several times and the bike just slowed down with no drama whatsoever. Thought about trying the front brake, but simply could not bring myself to experiment on that surface.

Later on that same ride, I tried TCS 2 and Tour mode on the rough stuff and I think I like that combination even better when the going gets rough.

I have when riding 2-up on gravel braked with both ends fairly abruptly and all that happened is the bike slowed accordingly. I have no idea how Mamma Yamma did it, but they got it right.

Welllll, it's kinda like having a 20 foot paint job. Everything looks great when 20 feet away.
