Recently this Iconic machine was brought to our Shop.
It's slated to be given a "Clean Up", and then will be displayed at our Sherriff's Office with other historic memorabilia.

I instantly heard the "CHiPs" theme song in my head when I saw the photos.

My Dad had a non-police version of one of these, and it was a beast. It was also very hard to push when it ran out of gas, as I found out the hard way once.

They had something like a 28 yr production run. My last brand new one was a '00. In '04 we went BMW. With the exception of a few minor differences, looks just like the '00. I'm thinkin' that one's pretty old though. The extra cooling fins and kick starter and all. My first one was a '90 or '92 and it didn't have those.

Compared to today's bikes, it's slow, nimble, but didn't have a very good lean angle. The brakes are not what we would tolerate today though. And just wait 'till you see the price tag on those tires. The only bike that uses them is this one. The Beemer's tires were almost half the price of these.

That one looks well taken care of. Don't see any scratches on the crash bars. I've had the right bar pushed back enough that it kept the brake pedal from being pressed. These things are tanks. Drop 'em, pick 'em back up, clear the carbs, and off ya' go. That all being said, don't miss 'em.

Not as bad as a Tenere with a flat front tire. And I was told by the Harley tech, that the Tenere with a flat still felt lighter than a Harley.
