Hi, everybody. I'm trying to find black OEM cases in US. My question is whether mount is the same? Where can I find them and how much would they cost me? I've talk to Yamabits.uk and they quoted me $1126 just for the cases... Please help!!!

Mounts are the same. They're not officially being sold in the US, so you either have to go to an overseas dealer or have the silver ones painted. At this time, probably more cost effective to have them painted.

Yamaha is announcing their 2013 USA changes in their motorcycles as I type, so might want to stay tuned.... its possible that they'll import the black ones.

MikeBear, I just painted mine in the garage. It is a matter of several screws and removing the silver panels to then prime and paint or add whatever coating you want to on them. Yes it does take a little time, but nothing a few rainy days can't handle. Like Markjenn said, it would save hundreds of dollars. I think I might have $25 in painting all three cases.

So what you are saying is that silver panels are held by screws and can be removed to be painted? That s a great news. I didn't know that ::012:: thanks

Any more on this since last month?

I've been considering the same thing, either importing the black, or painting, but haven't pulled the trigger either way yet

The set of Rhino-Lined in the Panniers thread really caught my eye.

I like the silver, as it doesn't show the dirt as much and I never wash the bike. :))

That said, if someone likes black, they might look into ceramic coatings. Very tough, not too spendy and pretty simple once you take the panels off. Unlike powder coatings, ceramic coatings don't re-melt and are much tougher.

I'm headed to Germany for a couple of weeks next month, I wonder if I can find a pair there and just check them as baggage on the way back....

I doubt dealers have sets laying around.....hmm

I'm gonna make a call

Not familiar with ceramic coatings. Where do you get it? I'm looking into black OEM cases too.
There should be some shops more or less in your area that do performance coatings. They are baked on at a higher temp than powdercoating, but some shops do both. This is the shop I have used in the past when I lived in Portland, OR. http://www.finishlinecoatings.com/

This place had a good rep when I was doing more of this. http://www.performancecoatings.com/ They are in Auburn, WA.

I used a $11.67 can of spray on bed liner for pick up trucks and $1.50 roll of masking tape. It did all three. Really like the look.

I think they look really great as well. That spray on bed liner is the schnizzel!! No sanding , no primer. Clean the surface and spray it on. It's a rubberized type coating that doesn't scratch up all that easily. The application and cost makes it a real winner.
I met a F800GS rider that had done it to his bags at the SLAP rally at White Rock in May, so I can't take credit for the idea. It's a good one though. ::026::
