Had three S10s with silver bags and no issue with a soft cooler and keeping camping fod cold.

Have a Black S10 now which i think would look great with black bags. Anyone notice the inside of the bags heating up i the Sun?

I never noticed it with silver bags.

Thanks

darker colors absorb light,
Lighter colors reflect light...

Silver anodize vs black powder coat is a push. The powder (likely polyester) is a poor conductor compared to anodize. If we were talking powder to powder or anodize to anodize then it can be argued the color makes a difference

Interestingly, did an exercise a few years ago on diesel exhaust stack temperatures and color. 439 SS vs 439 SS with .0015 of black silicone coating showed NO significant temperature difference. What did show a difference is whether there was a breeze blowing or not.

Theory and opinion are always subject to reality checks thought ::002::

I tend to agree. Sit in the sun with/with out a breeze; big difference. That and the ambient air temperature. Also, isn't there a small air gap between metal outer, and plastic inner? I don't think color will make a difference to the soft cooler.

I like that it turned into a science discussion. As scientist I absolutely understand the black absorption factor but its the thin aluminum that is the question. Is there enough absorbing "thickness" to make any difference. I thought not but have only ever had silver or light colored bags of 20 years work of bikes. Although I did have a couple Concours back in the day with their plastic black bags and I know they heated up.

Given the same make and material (anodized) aluminum it was just something that might sway my choice. I didn't remember an option for black anodized the last time I bought bags.

While a black colored object will seem to get hotter in the sun than a light colored object, black bodies are also better at radiating that heat. I remember reading a study where scientists studied the difference between the black vs. white robes worn by nomads in the Sahara Desert. At first the researchers thought the black robes would be much hotter to wear. When they instrumented the robes and compared them it turned out to be wash.

I have the black OEM bags in Texas. Although I have not compared them to the Silver bags, I did notice that they don't seem to get very hot inside. May have something to do with the plastic interior. I also have the Bestem padded liners as well (probably act like insulation).

I have no regrets about the black and it seems to hold up well.

Mine has black bags and trunk, I have noticed the outside of the trunk is very hot sometimes while the sun is shining on it but I've never noticed anything inside the trunk or side bags being even slightly heated .
