I was getting this alarm 19 flashing when bike won't start. I took the kick stand switch apart and cleaned it up( it looks quite robust) but still got error code
so I bought a new one. I'm still getting error code 19. Only happens every now and then. So far I have been able to start after a couple of minuets
of cranking. Bike has 50,000 miles.

Since you replaced the switch, try checking for continuity or grounding shorts from the sidestand to the ECU.

I have found that when I turn on the ignition if code 19 is showing I turn off the ignition then back on, code 19 is gone and bike starts right up.

What does code 19 mean? anyone knows..
Reading last post, I thought about some error during the startup procedure..and when doing again at once no problem during the procedure.
And then, what could bebefits from a "double" startup?
Maybe pressure in injection system?
Maybe wrong pressure reading? or actual wrong pressure?

(Sorry if i'm way off, kind of just thinking out loud :))

Side stand switch/circuit issue.

Thanks ::008::
Then I think it is strange, that the quick turn off/on, have the described effect ???
Sorry, no more thinking out loud.

The fact that switching the ignition off and back on clears it up makes me think about dirty or worn contacts in the ignition switch itself. My buddy with a 2016 FJR has had sidestand errors displayed if he doesn't make sure the ignition switch is completely seated in the ON position before pressing the starter button.

It sounds like an intermittent connection and you already replaced the switch.

These and most bikes tend to get a little corrosion in the wiring connectors over time, so I'd suggest simply pulling apart the few connectors in the circuit, spritzing them with contact cleaner, insert a touch of dielectric silicone grease, and reconnecting them. You can do this to any other connectors, too, while you are at it.

While at it, look REAL close for wires chafing, especially to grounded hard points.

The other type of intermittent is much harder to find, as it is when a crimped connector was installed improperly. The slightest vibration or flex can make them either hide a problem or create a problem. As you already have a bunch of miles on the bike this is possible but less likely.

I believe problem was ignition connector. There are two harnesses coming out of ignition switch. One for ignition and another for everything else. With the ignition connector unplugged you will get code19 every time. Unable to clean corrosion good enough so jumped around connector. Everything seems ok.

I think you are right on.
My 12 will show 19 and will not start.
If I move the ignition switch wires around it fixes it.
I noticed this when starting the bike if I turned bars to the right it would kill the engine and show 19.
Last time this happened I moved the switch wires around and it hasn't acted up for a long time.

I'm having this problem too. Isolated the side stand and replaced battery. Still gets code if I leave it off charge a few days. Voltage at 12.8 and I get code. Bike runs great when it starts, so I don't believe that it's the ECU. But engine will suddenly stop running, and so I am suspecting a loose or bad connection some where. I've decided that Code 19 indicates that there is a loose connection in the wiring that prevents the bike from starting under certain conditions, not necessarily the side stand. My bike stores under an awning and gets subjected to weather and bugs. Found a spider nest in the starter relay once. I occasionally have to remove dirt dobber nests. I hate storing it like this but have no choice. But for an adventure bike to be this electrically fickle is startling.

Here is my latest on the code 19 problem. I watched some videos and read many comments here and decided to try and fiddle with the ignition switch. I was shocked by the path its loom takes to get to the plug in the electrical panel. I'm sure that Yamaha didn't want this loom to move, but it seems a bit tight to me where it turns up into the ignition switch. Two videos I saw the owners flicked the wiring loom just below the switch and the bike died. So I loosened the loom just below the switch. Then I cleaned the connection with contact cleaner, then made sure each tang on the plug had die electric grease. I also cleaned out the switch with contact cleaner and used the key to apply the grease down in the switch. So far, no codes, and the bike has not died. I do still get the check engine light when pressing the start button. So I will pursue the other circuits and sensors that have to show a closed circuit in order for the bike to start. My bike stores under an open awning. So I have been taking an extra step to cover the key hole when not in use. Surprisingly, a friend with an Indian Chief also had this problem. He replaced the side stand sensor, gear position sensor, and clutch switch. His bike would die for no reason it seemed.

I think the check engine light will come on normally if you press the start button with the engine already running, or are you seeing it when trying to start the engine?
