Might just be me overreacting but i thought what happened today was strange and wanted to get some input by you guys. Today on my ride to work my radiator fan came on after two brief stops at the lights. I wouldn't find it strange if we had hot weather, but the temperature today is 14 degrees celsius (57F for those metrically challenged :p ).

Should i chalk it down as normal or do i have it checked out?

I bought the bike used and only had id for a short time, so we're still getting to know each other.

Normal. I have had the fan come on when stopped in traffic at 5C.

Yeah, mine comes on quite regularly in stop and go traffic, even at lower ambient temps.

Damn thing sounds like a slightly muted 1920's fire truck siren, too.

Normal.

I would venture to say that no matter how hot it is outside, when the fan comes on, it will bring the temperature down. That is how you know the bike is not under radiated. The fact is, when the bike is motionless, regardless how cold it is outside, there is no cooling media, so at some point the fan will come on.

Yep i know it's gonna come on sooner or later in stop and go traffic. Seemed just too fast that it came on at the second light in the aforementioned stop and go.

Thx for taking care of my sanity with your answers ::008:: .

Likely normal. Firstly, only worry when the fan does not come on and second what is the engine temp reading on the display when it comes on and goes off? Its like clockwork for the fan to go on and off at a particular temp which escapes me at the moment...214 F on and 200 off or the like i don't recall. Set your display readings to show engine temp and let us know. Living in S. Florida makes the fan my friend.

Ya because the fan is side mounted and completely covered it does heat up easier than front mounted radiators which are open and in a constant breeze. The fan does a good job of cooling it quickly though. Trail riding really gets it going too. Never misses a beat, no matter what. ::001::

When mine does, I just . . . in my classic Eddie Murphy RAW voice, look to the guy in the car next to me and say, "Pull Over, whoo, whoo!" C:)

105 and 99 means it is operating exactly as it should be.
