Wondering if anyone out there who has a big Agnes bag could post a pic of it in the stuff sack. Wondering how big or small they compact to.

I have an old down Sierra Designs bag that is down right tiny when packed. Takes up very little space in a saddle bag. Thinking of trying out a big Agnes but don't want to give up saddlebag space.

I have a Big Agnes down bag that packs pretty small - say the size of a large cantelope... But I've seen bags that pack smaller. It's all gonna depend on the outer material, the filling, the temp rating, and the price point you're looking at. Once you've narrowed it down (I usually start from the price point/rating, then you can start looking at packing size.

I've found Big Agnes very helpful on the phone. They should be able to tell you exactly what size to expect from each model. Note that the compression sack that comes with the bag doesn't compress to the max - you'll need another sack, or compression straps (also from BA).

If you're a not a really big guy (especially at the shoulders) check out the Halo Recon (Generation 2, 3, 4 or 5) They pack down extremely small and are very practical. I wouldn't say they are the best sleeping bags in general, but when it comes to saving space on the bike and still have a sleeping bag that will keep you warm, these will be very difficult to beat.

The grey stuff sack is for my BA Yampa (45 deg. down) The dimensions on the stuff sack are listed as 7.5"x15". The stuff sack is big and is sized to fit both the bag and matching pad in the stuff sack. Pretty compact for both items --and even more so if I got a compression sack for it. Other times I put my down jacket in there with the sleeping bag.
(For scale, the hard panniers are hepco-becker Junior 30L).

I know I'm a little late for the party here, but the grey stuff sack is my BA Fish hawk down bag. My whole kit fits in the D-38 bag from twisted throttle.

I keep searching for a sleeping bag that apparently doesn't exist...

I want one that's roomy (no mummy bags) packs down small, has at least s 20 degree temp rating and doesn't cost a lot...like less than a $100...

I have always used mummy bags. but it seems I might be getting claustrophobic as I get older..

oh wait, maybe I am just getting fatter...... either way I think I want to look for a more square cut bag to give me some more room. I like the larger cut of the BA bags. Also like the idea of the sleeping pad slot. Im a pretty warm sleeper, so I dont need as much insulation. And like all other moto campers I am always looking for the most efficient way to pack. I dont want a giant bag that is going to take up half a saddlebag.....

That pic IceCold Dan posted looks pretty nice, I think I need to get myself to REI and have a look-see in person.

Thanks for the responses

Trying the Big Agnes system out this year. Has the sleeve that allows you top put the sleeping pad inside the bottom of the bag so you hopefully wake up with it under you. Bag is the Summit Park, down. Rated to 15 degrees, my previous down bag was also rated to 15 degrees and seemed to work fine for most summer type camping. Nothing that some merino wool long underwear wouldn't fix for those extra cold nights. :-\
Trying it out by packing with the sleeping pad left in the bag and put in a 25 litre stuff sack, previous bag fit in a 15 litre. Both the bag and the tent , after I shortened the tent poles to 16 1/2 inchs fit across the passenger seat between the cases and allow the lids to open, with those wonderfull Rok straps.
Just checking the Big Agnes site and it seems they have an upgraded down available for some of their bags called "drytek" might be worth checking out.

Ahh!! ???

Nothing like the feel of rough merino wool underwear between your legs zipped up tight in a overrated temp mummy bag!! :D

I hate mummy bags, but i tell you what when it gets cold you zip that puppy up tight.

I have a XL mountain hardware 10 degree rated down mummy with an expander panel that zips in 54" shoulder width sucks.
Never the less If it's to hot I just use it as a blanket if it get real hot I sleep on top of it, I bring a Down jacket an down booties just in case temp gets way cold.
I'm likeing the looks of that Summit Park. I lay on my stomach a lot and roll around before i fall asleep, Down compresses down nothing.

What did it cost?

Mummy cut but for under $100, look at the Eureka Silver City (30F) bag which comes with its own compression sack and then add a Polarfleece bag (about $15) as a liner for nights colder than 40F.

I use a Big Agnes dual core pad. I've learned that if I keep it a bit softer, I sleep better and I rarely move off of it anymore. As long as I don't touch ground when laying down, there is enough air in the pad. Air it up too much and you will slide off constantly. Insulation up on cold nights and insulation down on hot nights. My best investment in camping gear that allows me to get a good night's sleep.

I have my Big Agnes in a Sea to Summit dry bag that fits in my D-38. The S2S dray bag compresses the sleeping bag a lot.

The BA Whiskey Park is the black stuff sack in the middle. I bought in 1999 while in Steamboat Springs jeepin. Its a reat bag, but thee are way better options for packing down small.
