Best slip on for touring?

I know this topic has come up before but I wanted to add some of my own questions, without reviving an old thread. I know many other people have a similar question so I figured I would start a new thread.

I am looking for a quality slip on exhaust that will be slightly louder with a better sound than stock. I don't want too loud because I do a lot of highways miles and I want to cruise without going completely def every time I get on the bike.

I am mostly considering the Arrow or the Akripovic but I am open to other suggestions as well. The arrow and akri appear to be the only slip on's that point down properly and should give me extra sound I am looking for, without being too loud. My reservations are that I don't know how good the Arrow sounds with it's DB killer in place. As for the Akripovic, It almost doesn't seem loud enough and doesn't seem like enough of a change over the stock pipe, especially considering the high price tag.

Please give me your input and suggestions, thank you!

Look in to the Delkevic, line of aftermarket mufflers. It has been talked about on this forum many times.

Good Luck

I had the Akrapovic' on mine and loved it. Nice sound but not too loud. Could spend all day on the bike without it bothering me and I'm sensitive to too load. Not cheap but strongly recommended.

I agree. I have had the same Akra on 2 different S10's for a total of over 50,000 miles and it still looks and sounds wonderful. Just a bit more tone than stock and a heckuva lot better looking than that fugly OEM can. ;D

Hi Fred. What did you do with the OEM muffler guard (plastic)?

As above post. On throttle overrun particularly when in 2nd gear when down changing it makes a wonderful deep rumble! Also when on power it has a nice deep note but not offensive. I've had loud mufflers in the past and agree when on highways they start to ruin your ride.

I had the same question as you for a slip on and went for the Yoshimura RS4. It is a bit louder than the stock with the db killer in, with a lovely tone but not too loud ! It also looks nice and is almost half the price of an Ackropvic

That is the type of response I am looking for, thank you! Unfortunately, I am quite picky and I really don't like how the exhaust hole points almost straight out with the Yoshi. I live in much too moist of a climate for that. Besides the risk of melting the back of the turn signal, I just don't like how it looks. I know they do offer a down turned extension of some type but that looks absolutely horrid to me. Maybe I am OCD or something, I don't know lol.

I am really hoping someone could give me a comparison between the Arrow and Akri cans, versus the stock can in terms of noise at all speeds. I am pretty sure I want nothing to do with the 2 brothers or yoshimura at this point. Otherwise, I will have to look into some of the other brands suggested here.

My 2015 S10 came with a Laser Exhaust bought by the original owner. http://laser-exhausts.com/

Deep incredible sound. Bike sounds just mean - like a ducati twin on roids.
It is not too loud - but it aint quiet either. It is not HD obnoxious loud.
Open the throttle and it will bark.
Cruise around and it just sings.
Hit the twisting and I giggle at the sound the bike makes.
It has a deep burble on engine braking.
You want it quiet you slip the db killer in - 1 minute job.

It is solidly built in stainless and comes with a 6mm aluminium mounting plate. It will wear well in dirt.

I ride the city streets with it fine without the dbk. Cops have not found it offensive.
I even tour with it and on the highway it does not drone or is annoying - the bike and wind noise are louder.

Group I ride with, the ones riding behind me say it sounds really good.

I'm really happy with it.

Considering your requirements, I would go with the Akra. I have a titanium Arrow and love it, but it could be considered loud with the insert removed and honestly, with it in, the sound is somewhat unflattering. It is fairly quiet, though.

Hi Tim,

I put it back where it originally was, outboard of the silencer.

Thanks Fred. I had not seen the Akra mounted with the full muffler guard. Not bad. I will go with that.

Is the Arrow still slightly louder than stock with the insert in?

What do you mean by unflattering? Could you upload a video or sound recording maybe?

Bought my S10 used and it came with the Akro. Really like the sound, those folks know how to make a great exhaust.

I've got a Delkevic setup on my Tuono. Decent sound but I don't think the quality is like the Akro.

YMMV :)

Edit: FWIW, I just came back from 11 days on the road, the sound was nice and never bothered me.

Had an Akra on my first Tenere and transferred it to my present. Liked the sound . Not too loud. Also had a TDM 850 with a 450mm Delkevic and baffle. Much louder than the Akra on the Tenere. Decided to sell the TDM but kept the Delkevic and purchased the short connecting pipe from Delkevic UK.and put it on the Tenere. Very slight increase in sound with the baffle in but really sweet with the baffle out. Not hooligan loud. My vote is for The Delkevic at a fraction of the cost of an Ackra. ::012:: ::012::

Honestly, Price is the only thing holding me back from just buying the Akrapovic. A slightly better tone, slightly better looks and 3 or 4 pounds less weight for almost $900.... Not so sure it is worth it. $500 or less, sure. $900... UGH.

The only other thing I am hoping for with an aftermarket can is to reduce most of the engine braking. I don't really like how much this machine engine brakes and I am hoping a more free flowing exhaust will reduce it. Any thoughts on this?

From my understanding having the ECU re-flashed will reduce the engine braking, I'm sure someone on here will either confirm or refute that.

IMO the price of the Akra pipe is absurd. They make great exhausts, and if I were building a race bike I would (and have) use their Ti full race exhaust, because they're great quality and make really good power. But $800 for a 14" pipe and a can? Please. The Yosh RS-4 Signature series are half the money, excellent quality, and are CARB and EPA compliant for noise.

I have a long Delkovic, not plug and play installation with panniers, so I had to use a longer hanger. It does not work with my Carbon Fiber exhaust guard, so I have the stock one on. It seems louder not, after 3000 miles, than when I installed it, but not too obnoxious. I defiantly do not want to louder.
