We have had good successes with ecunleashed.

Unless I've missed it, I don't understand why nobody has posted a thread on the results of their 2014 model reflash.

I know not all S10 owners post here, but even so, I would have thought those that undertook the reflash would have learned of it on this forum and would therefore be likely to post their findings here.

I'm sure it'll go down like every other thread or comment pertaining to the pre '14 flashes. I have not done it on my '13 but everyone, everyone...says it's singlehandedly the best thing you can do for the bike. I'm saving for it for next off season. Haven't decided on who yet, but it will be done.

Hmmm...
One of the drawbacks of owning an Explorer before an S-10 :(
Not at all. Completely different motors. I rode a friends GS on Sunday and that is a motor that fails to impress. Feels like you're constantly caning it to make it go. I'm quite happy with the S10 just seeing if it can be made better. '14 owners that have had the ECU reflashed seem a silent lot. My biggest fear is that I won't be as happy with the bike after a reflash as I am now.

I saw this thread yesterday, but missed that it was in the Luggage section, so I moved it over to Tech.

Totally agree.
I like the gs but the opposing twin does not hold a candle to a parallel twin.

My father in-law has a 1200rt loves it but was really jealous when I got the tenere. He said it reminds him of how much the rt sounds like a a little truck.

Not sure if anyone in the UK has done one yet

Chris at CJS Racing may offer a free flash to the first punter, he did a free basic flash for someone on an earlier model (removed restrictions in both Modes, slightly enhanced T-Mode and improved fuelling in closed loop area)

With the 2014 being un-restricted there will be less to be gained from a generic flash, I would only want a custom setup on the dyno as I think that will be the key to good gains with the later bike.

It seems to me that the parallel twin revs up faster and spins freer than the boxer motor. That is only based on my experience, I have no technical proof. Maybe we should ask Kevin Cameron over at CW magazine? I'm not going to knock the GS but I also didn't find it as comfortable as the S10. In fact my back was killing me after the first hour. For me the S10 is the better fit.

Don't tell them it's been flashed they have no way of knowing without sending the ecu off to Yamaha to be pulled apart.

i seem to be finding the same thing....or i'm not doing a good job with my searching. almost every flash review i've been able to find has come from pre-2014 s10 owners. and since the stock map on 2014 and newer teneres is significantly different, it's hard to judge whether it's a worthwhile upgrade to my 2014 ES.

my main gripes with my bike's fueling are the steady-throttle surging i occasionally get (throttle grip isn't moving so much as a hair - but fuel gets added, then taken away...added, then taken away..) and, more importantly to me, the poor transitions from a closed throttle to initial opening: no matter how smooth and deliberate i try to be, the bike almost always goes from 0% throttle to 10% throttle - as if 1% to 9% don't exist. (all throttle openings from 10% - 100% are fine / "normal".)

has the reflash cured these traits for any 2014 and newer tenere owners out there?

I've put about 700 miles on my 14ES since getting the ECU back from AVC8130 and I will tell you the reflash absolutely transformed the riding experience.

I've got a little over 4500 miles on my ES, and although there's a lot to like about the bike, I hated the abruptness of any type of throttle input, and the stupid amount of engine braking in the S mode. I've got a 10 year old V twin with two Keihin CV carbs in my garage that I'm comparing the Yamaha to. I've spent way too much time screwing with the jetting on that bike and really wanted a new fuel injected motor I didn't have to fuss with, but compared to the 10 year old carbed bike I felt the Yamaha was a serious pain in the ass to ride smoothly, and the abrupt, jerky nature of the engine really detracted from a lot of the other positive attributes of the bike.

I did my research and talked to guys who'd had different companies re-flash their S10s, and after a couple emails with Anthony I sent him the ECU. The scariest part of the whole deal was when Anthony shipped it back to me and the USPS couldn't find my ECU for a couple days :'(. After 6 days the 3 day priority box showed up and all was good again.

Anthony's refalsh resolved about 90% of my complaints with the fuel injection on the Yamaha. It's still not quite as smooth as the carbed bike, but it's worlds better than stock, and I don't have to submit myself to the brain damage of rejetting if I want to take the bike from my home at 8000 ft down to Baja. His re-flash made on-off throttle transitions much smoother, and got rid of the engine braking that would upset the suspension if you accidentally chopped the throttle just a little too much when entering a corner. It's impossible to say without dynoing the motor, but the bike feels a little stronger also, especially in the lower part of the power band.

The money I spent on the AVC8130 re-flash ($245.20 with shipping) is maybe the best bang for the buck I've got for any bike mod or accessory in a long time.

Highly recommended!

yes, thank you for such a detailed reply, bvmark! also agree about the amount of engine braking (just didn't want to complain too much.. :) ). does anthony's flash raise the idle?

I already have plans to send my ECU to Anthony the end of the month. Sounds like it will make a good bike better. Will let you know the results.
