I’ve been told to replace the bearing (and o ring) when doing the seal on the final drive.
Anyone know where to get -
Yamaha #93316-01403-00
What’s the chance it’s bad at 18k ?
Although this bike was riden extremely hard by the first owner (who also was a hack mechanic) so assuming the worst.
Bought a nice Japanese motorcycle for reliability and easy parts.
This hasn’t been my experience with this thing but do love it and getting ready for a trip from downstate ny to Florida soon.
Any insight from your experience is welcome.

How bad is it leaking ? Mine had a slight leak with synthetic oil so switched back to regular 80-90 no more leak. Be sure not to over fill it, a little low is better than to full.

No bearing……. Just the seal………

Go to another shop or get another opinion.

if your story started off by saying you had 350K miles, I then would say you “might” need a bearing.

Pop in a seal, change the oil in the rear end and keep it clean. (I’m not standing next to your bike. But unless you hear some major crunching, or you drain the oil and chunks of metal are falling out,I’m going to suggest you are GOOD)

As Cycledude asked, how bad is it leaking?
If it's an occasional weep out of the big seal I don't worry about it. I've had it happen a few times and it seemed to spit whatever was in the seal then just run fine. If it kept leaking for any length of time of course, the big seal is easy to replace.

There are a number of threads about replacing seals at the front and back of the pumpkin. What you will not find are threads about this rear drive grinding like a BMW. Even if it is leaking and you don't have time to fix it, top the lube and keep a watch on it.

btw - Thread moved to appropriate sub-forum.
