Do any of you have any experience with heated gear (jacket) powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery? This stuff any good? Does it work? Do the batteries last? That kind of thing. Thanks. Inquiring minds want to know. R

My exo2 storm rider has the option to use a battery, but you only power the rear heated panels in that mode. Haven't tried that yet to be honest. The Jett heated vest got a good review from web bike world. Fraid that's all I can contribute.

Doesn't Gerbing sell battery packs for their stuff? I was going through my goody bag from the IMS and was thinking the battery route would be a good thing for the real cold mornings a-hunting.

Just wondering how well they heat, how long they last, and how the batteries hold up. they all say the batteries will recharge 500 times, but they only warranty them for 6 months. Makes you wonder .... R

I wonder how those batteries behave in the event of a crash. Would they flame on?

I am drawn by their perceived versatility for hunting and such as well.

I've got the EXO2 vest heated by battery.

The battery setting has 5 settings...I find it provides ample heat on 2 (when real cold, I push it up to 3), with 5 being highest. The battery keeps putting out the power for a good 5 hours and the vest is plenty warm.

I personally don't like the wires, though use them for my glove liners, when I have to...and find the battery pack makes the vest very flexible...when standing around with guys before the ride begins, I'm still heated up.

Can't speak for what happens in the event of a crash.

I could like that for skiing. Turn it up for those long cold chair rides, turn it down when you're actually working. I'll have to check it out.

does any/all battery powered gear also run off wired 12V, if desired? it would get used even more often, if it did.

When I purchased my EXO2, I was purposely looking for battery gear; My attitude the opposite. Were I to have battery option on gloves, I would use those more than my 12V (I did not find a good battery alternative for gloves).

In answer to your question, though; During my evaluation, the two vests I found with battery option, could also be run using 12V.

Most of them do, but some of them run exclusively from their own battery. The Exo2 will run from either source, but only heats the back panels when running off its internal battery. Using the bike as a power source, you get front heat as well. Unless you're in extreme cold, the rear panels do a very good job of keeping your core warm.
