I will be riding past Barber Motosport and wondering if I will have enough time for a visit (weekday); how long does the average moto lover spend in the museum?

Thanks

its really amazing. i would suggest 4 hours for a reasonable tour of it if u look at everything and read a bunch of stuff they have on all the bike displays.

I have been a volunteer at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum since 2003 and am currently a part time docent. It is hard to describe the facility to someone that has never experienced it, but it is definitely worth the visit. The campus is over 800 acres and there is currently an expansion of the museum under construction. the expansion is expected to be open by the Vintage Festival, October 7-9 and will allow the staff to display much more of the collection.

There are group guided tours available most weekends, which last for an hour or so. They can give you a overview of the history of the museum and the docents highlight some of the more significant bikes in the collection.

If you have more time available, say around 3 or 4 hours, you can see a lot of the bikes you may be interested in, but even then, you will not have time to really take in everything on display.

The restoration level in the basement is closed to the public except for the major event weekends like the Vintage Festival, etc. If you are there when it is open, make sure that you go down and check out where the staff performs the in-house restoration process.

Also keep in mind that only about half of Mr. Barber's collection is on display at any one time. The staff rotates them in and out of storage and adds new bikes from time to time. So there will probably be several different bikes on display the next time you visit.
