Has anyone ridden this route in the last year? Is it all blacktop now, or a fair bit of gravel? Thank you.

A bunch of us did the TLH a few years ago. Great ride .Do it, paved or gravel….it was all gravel when we did it. For the straight poop on the TLH see ADV Rider forums, quite a few threads there. Budget time to at least do the west side of Newfoundland….absolute must see and do, just be aware of the moose, they're everywhere.

Wuzfast, thanks. Sorry I'm way slow responding. I did the TLH in 2009 on my 2008 v-Strom 650. I don't enjoy riding in gravel on a big bike, but I have done it. Was just trying to figure a way to get to Labrador on my new Super Tenere by blacktop road and not gravel. So I guess I'll be using ferry boat. I rode in Newfoundland, too. I agree with you. It is very nice. I'm planning to ride the new Super Tenere to all the United States (except Hawaii), and also the Canadian Provinces and Yukon and Northwest Territories. Not in one big ride, but knocking them out one or a few per trip.

Thanks for the answer on the TLH.

Eric when are you planning on this trip? I might be doing this in the next few weeks. Leaving Toronto and folowing the St-Lawrence on the north shore via hwy 138 till it ends in Kegashka. Then back west till Port-Cartier. There is a old back road that heads north to the 389 south of Labrador City then I will make my way to Blanc-Sablon and take the ferry over to Newfoundland.

Rode from Goose Bay - Happy Valley to Quebec and the rode was only paved at the southern end. No matter if it is paved or not, it's a fantastic ride. Scenery, critter sitings, biting bugs, dense fog, it's all good. Careful on the freshly graded dirt, especially crossing the dirt humps left by the grader.

The west side of NFL is a memorable ride and as mentioned be watchful for moose. The locals in Nova Scotia, NFL, & Labrador were all very friendly, Quebec not so much.

Take the trip, it's worth it.

Paul, does the route you're going to ride have gravel or is it all blacktop? And does it get you into Labrador? I'll look at my maps to see if I can figure out the route you are describing. Thanks.

I'm sure it's all gravel. The 389 to Labrador is black top and it's only the last few miles that are hard packed gravel. When you leaving ?
