I1m going to be looking for a couple of new tires before too long, has anyone had the new Avon Trailriders fitted to their S10 yet, if so how are they performing & whats the wear rates like?

Cheers for that, Interesting as the review in Ride magazine in UK by the 2 guys who helped Avon develop the tires said whilst it gripped well they didnt expect to get much more than 3-4 K miles out of the rear BUT I did notice you are based in the US & Aus. From previous posts on this forum & the Triumph Exploder forum it would appear that UK Tarmac is more abrasive than typical road surfaces in the US. Sounds like there worth giving a try though.

I would also add that testers for Avon would probably have spanked the bikes pretty hard, so a fair 'normal riding' assessment is not possible. BTW, they tested those tyres using Fowlers of Bristol's grey S10....

Yes hear what your saying about testers Dogdaze, I have tried the Storm3D on my old Tiger sport, did 3.5K loaded miles touring europe & there was no sign of squaring off at all. I currentlly have them fitted to my BMW R1150R as well, the front nearly shot now after about 9K miles! But with the engine characteristics on that bike you hardly have to brake hard on the front & the engine only ever knocked out about 85 horses when it left the factory so its not exactly going to tear the rear up. Saying that the reas has done the same miles as the front & only looks half worn & still has a good rpofile to it!! So yes it looks as though I will either be fitting Storm 3s or Trail riders to the S10

I'm gobsmacked I've got over 10000 miles on a pair of Storm 3ds. Best life of any tyre on any bike I've ever had.. Still looks plenty of life yet to go... It's not like I've been taking it easy on em either. ???

If your only using on the road try Pilot 4's I run trips from Edinburgh down to Alps with a run to Nurburgring on way back so couldn't ask for more of a test. I get 9k+ on rears and front 11/12k before I look lol

Oh and I do 30-40k year ::021::

They were just a couple of magazine readers, neither seemed to be a hard riding nutter and they seemed to think the tyres did not last so well as others they have used in a similar manner.

Nothing would tempt me away from a road tyre for my 99%+ road riding (with the other 1%- being really easy dirt or gravel tracks) I can get great mileage and have the benefit of more grip in any conditions - and not convinced the like of Trailriders (and Trailsmarts / Tourances etc) really give any noticeable benefit off-road, the tread is nowhere near "blocky" enough to dig into loose ground...

...if you look at the first Tourance it was actually quite a rugged tyre, then the EXP version halved the width of the grooves and the latest generation of Tourance looks about as "blocky" as a sports tyre from a decade or so ago.

I think the TKC70 looks like a genuine mixed ability tyre, but I don't do mixed riding, and you cannot expect great mileage from a tyre designed to work off road.

Roadsmart 2's all the way for me, on all 3 of our bikes ;)

Aup stranger... Good choice mate with the Storms. They were brill on the Tenere. See how the mileage stacks up with me Trailriders but thru the winter they did the job ploughing on thru slimey shitty back roads and now theres some warm sunny days peaking thru I can open the Ten up on the twisties with confidence. Deffo happy to fall back to the Storms next time if the new rubber don't work out overall...

Ayup Tenbob..... been to Slovenia & back, 6000 miles on the Storm 3s now & still got 4mm tread left on the rears & I have been misbehaving a bit. Grip in wet is great, if me boots wasnt so wide the pegs would have been on the deck through the Alps in the wet on a regular basis. My old BMW R1150R has now gone & its been replaced with a Kawasaki ZRX1200, and yes Ive binned the shitty Bridgestone & fitted Avons to that bike too with great results again. Nice one Avon

At 6500 miles on the machine I replaced the OEM tiyres with Avon Trailriders. The Odometer reads 10600 miles and the Avon rear is 90% gone. I have an OEM Bridgestone ready to go on.
