I have an Eastern Beaver PC-8 installed and the relay for the PC-8 is wired into the Auxiliary Headlight Wire so it is switched on and off with the key.

I hit a deer last year and smashed the right side plastic and battery box area. I got the bike fixed. However, ever since then the items I have hooked up to the switched portion of the PC-8 stay on even after the bike is turned off.

I finally got around to investigating today and found the Auxiliary Headlight wire is staying hot even with the key switch turned off.

I'm wondering if anybody knows if this has a separate relay that could be bad or some other suggestion of what the issue could be.

Thanks!

Steve

In that plug you have a ground, constant, switched /ignition 12v. I bet your on the constant. The switched wire is blue I think but can check all this with a test light in two minutes. Have you also checked your relay? They are cecptable to water, throw a new Bosh in and give that a try. I've wired a bunch of crazy stuff. If you can't get it fixed feel free to call me at the office.

In addition to Tobasco's comment, the relay may have been damaged. If it's a non-solid state relay, then the internal trigger, which is a piece of metal that's magnetized when the bike is turned on, may be stuck in the "on" position. Switch out the relay and see if that fixes anything. Also, you can try turning the bike on and you should be able to hear a faint "clicking" sound from the relay. You'll hear this click when you turn the bike on and off and this is the internal bridge that does the relay magic.

Good Guess Tobasco! Those wires had all been ripped out and the dealer put it back together and replaced one harness section. He had the wires reversed in the plug, so even though it was plugged in correctly - the constant was going to the relay. I pulled the wires out of the plug and put the constant in the blank one and the switched wire to the relay and now all works as it did before Mr Deer tried to run through me!

Thanks again!

And this is why almost everyone should cut the 87a wire on relays! It only causes headache.
