My S10 and I arrive in Portland in just under 2 weeks from Australia for an 11 week tour of the U.S., Camnanda and Alaska. My S10 is a 2011 model and I have ordered an OEM top case from the Portland dealer. Would I need to order any special mounting gear for it or does it just fit on the standard rear carrier rack? I would appeciate any advise as I would like to order anything that I need before we arrive. Hope to catch up with some of you from the forum over the next several months.

Jeff,

OK, I don't have ANY of the OEM luggage, so I think that rates me as an expert :)

I think you should be fine as the standard rear rack seems to be the same all over the world. As I understand it, they don't come with locks as you are supposed to use the ones supplied with the bike. This is so that you can use the one key for all luggage and running the bike. Did you get 3 extra locks with the bike? (one for top case and one each for the side cases).

Assuming you have them, I'd say you need to take at least one with you to fit to the new top case. Apparently easy enough to fit.

Cheers
Glenn

You'll need no more pieces in order to mount the OEM topbox, apart from an Allen (hex) key to remove the rear carrier rack to make room for the topbox. Remember to bring one of lock cylinders that came with the bike and a small tamper-proof torx key to mount the cylinder in the box.

cheers, and welcome to Oz

Thanks for your help so far. I bought three new locks for the panniers so all the luggage will be one key.
Sounds like it should be pretty straight forward.
