Well that's what I want to do.. Attach a hatchet and a machete to my bags for the CO trip... I know that I can come up with some super slick, bad ass mount that will take a month to build.. That's how my brain works, I can build things for NASA. This is not a job where that is required. :D Im looking for a few simple ideas.. Its the easy jobs that are hard for me... :D

You got some ideas to hold these to the bags? I dont want to drill a bunch of holes in the bags if I can help it.... Your thoughts ? I was thinking of attaching them to the top lids..

You use a North face duffel bag don't you? Use the ice-axe loops that are integrated in the bag for a hatchet.

Baja Explorer: Let's see. Duct tape+hatchet handle+drive shaft housing. You just came up w/ the cure for cancer for BMWs.

How about some rare earth magnets? Strong as hell and no drilling required. They can be simply removed when not needed.

I have my folding saw and hatchet mounted to the underside of the lid on the R/H alum. bag. They have to be solid other wise they drop down on stuff. I have mine mounted with industrial Velcro, not good enough.

How about just strapping it to a soft pack?

Other than that, I did see a sheath somewhere that had metal grommets around the outside edge, possible becoming attach points. Army surplus might be your source.

Yep, just don't try to go through airport security with that one.

Part of the fun in storing my hatchet and machete is finding something to hack them into and leaving it there. My workbench has been hacked to death.

So, I say you attached a hunk of stump to each side of your bike and then just slam them home for storage.

You have enough time to practice- how about learning to throw them at your bike and landing them in the stump?

Video it, please.

I think the clamps they use on the back of fire trucks to hold the axe in place and keep it readily accessible would be sweet on the back of a hard bag.
