I got my Arrow headers yesterday and was surprised to find a lot of pitting and mandrel marks on the surface. I would expect some machine marks but I felt this was excessive.
There are lots of pit marks on the surface and long scratches or gouges running the length of the pipe.

I wanted to see if anyone else that has gotten them had the same issues?

Any ideas for cleaning them up? I may hit them hard with a Scotchbrite pad or buffing wheel to minimize the look.

Also, did you guys seal the connector pipe joint to the header joint and silencer joint with high-temp silicon? I needed to on the OEM header to Arrow silencer but don't know if it will be needed on the headers.

Mine didn't quite make it yesterday, but hopefully today. I'll be sure to check and report on the quality once they are out of the box. I suspect I'll have to use some RTV between the arrow headers and the Akra pipe, but we'll see.

Headers arrived today and I just gave 'em a once over. Minor to moderate pitting on the down pipes (I suspect from the clamps they used during the bending process?) and some deep scratches along the pipes next to the O2 sensor bungs.

Looks like the same gorilla did my pipes as yours Devin (a cheeky monkey perhaps?).

Given the modest price of these I am not terribly upset. I think some light duty emery cloth followed up with some steel wool should do the trick.

That looks really bad! It's just optical damage, but this should not happen... Why not notify your vendor and demand replacement? Ride these until unscratched headers are delivered? Arrows should be notified that their quality control is off. Since both of you have the same isues, it's clearly their wrong.

I'm happy my headers are spotless and unscratched, else I would have returned them. ::024::

Blue Eyes - thanks for letting us know that they should be in better condition. I hit mine hard with a Scotchbrite and they look better now.
I did email pics to a contact at Arrow in Italy. I will wait to see what they think.

Here is what mine looked like.

Mine were also fine, and at the price I don't think its much to worry about.

It is not a problem now that I put some elbow-grease into it with the Scotchbrite. I kind of like my Matte finish now anyway.

It makes me cry to see that piece of Italian "craftmenship"......

Arrows should be thankful for your feedback, as it allows them to prevent this from happening to more customers and damaging their reputation for quality. That is why they should send off new ones (which are 100% OK) ASAP and without questions asked!

I hope they solve it to your satisfaction soon!

may I ask where you gentlemen purchased your arrow headers?

I was going to get the OTR headers, but they would be well over $600, so if the arrows are cheaper I may be persuaded to go that way

O/k thinking about headers - has anyone actually compared the OTR and Arrow Headers.

For the additional price I would expect something ... quality, finish, performance ?

Based on previous comments I'm also wondering whether Arrow have improved their overall
finish with the units shipping now.

I can now tell they have a better welder on the line.. Also, they must have installed a new mandrel, the tubes are nicer than they where a year ago..

I got my arrow headers from revzilla. They were scuffed up like speedstars. Contacted revzilla and they gave me $90 off on a power commander. I was a muffler man many years ago. I think the bender put some of the marks and sliding the tubing on top of each other put the long scratches on them. Luckily they stay kinda dirty and don't bother me. But they look BAD. If it was on a show bike I would have sent them back. Are they all scent up like that??

I wonder if any of these exhaust systems are properly modeled for maximum area under the horsepower curve. My racing partner and I have spent thousands in dyno testing, many hours in fabrication, many hours in modeling using PipeMax and other software, to extract the best area under our usable RPM range for our race motors.

While that's probably overkill for a bike application, I'm thinking a little R&D along with some properly sized Burns merge collectors could really pay dividends for the Super T engine. And once it's done and the knowledge is known, it doesn't cost any more to make a perfectly matched set of headers as it does to make a crappy version (as long as we're not talking too crappy). More or less thinking out loud, but a set of headers for the SuperT might be a pretty fun winter project.

Step one though would be to get cam specifications on the intake and exhaust cams. Is that information available? Clearly I could measure the cams in my motor but if the information is out there it'd save a lot of work. Step two is going to be some flow numbers from the head as well as physical dimensions of the ports, valves, and seats.
