When are people changing their tires? I am just looking at my stock BW on the rear and it looks like the thread wear indicators are flush with the tire. Can I finally put on my new E-07s or do people leave them on for longer when they are worn this far?
I just did a few gravel roads without traction issues but it was dry so not a real challenge

Those have been done for a while....the E-07 was great for everything except wet tar strips for the first 1000 miles and the grating on the mackinaw bridge whenever

Thanks for confirming what I was thinking. But after riding a few weeks ago with a friend who rode the rear tire of his RT until the rubber peeled of the belt, I was wondering if I was being too cautious.
Needless to say, he wasn't thrilled about the peeling part, which was unplanned, but he was definitely intentionally pushing it a tad too much

I am also not someone who is leaning heavy on the throttle or spinning his rear in the dirt, and I am always running with the right pressure, so I was assuming I would get miles at the high end of what members are reporting. But this tire only has about 8,400 miles, which is not bad for an MC tire, but a lot less than what other folks report. Well -I guess I am riding the fat lady harder than some.

Technically, you were good till hitting the wear indicator. It is the little bridge between tread blocks visible in the close-up photo. That said, by the time you reach the wear indicator, the sipes (grooves) are essentially non-functional and they are there to channel away water. When the tread can't move water away through those sipes you are at risk of the tire floating on (hydroplaning/skating) on any water you encounter on the road.

So for the next time, that is why it's a good idea to replace before you get to this point.

Tires wear out fastest when they near their end.

That is pretty stupid and asking for trouble.
He would get a ticket for that over here, as well as being held liable if he was in an accident.

The TWI were placed their for a reason, pay attention. What difference does a couple hundred miles make? You already had new tires.

Tire peeling rubber and riding past TWI is proof that Darwin was right.

Change the damn tires, save a life, maybe yours.
