Helmets are like shoes, you find one that fits and is comfortable and you keep buying them. I like the HJC's but the Bilt is a very good buy and I own one of those that you are looking at. It is not my favorite helmet, but it fits my big ol' head very nicely.

I have a Fulmer Modular Helmet and my wife has the HJC Modular Helmet and we hate them. Way to much wind noise , it sounds like our heads are stuck in a wind tunnel . :)

Yes, I have a fly trecker DS hi viz yellow one. Awesome for the price. I like it better than my Arai XD, the visor catches the wind a lot less on the street. It is a budget helmet and it shows in the construction, but design and function wise I really like it.

Thanks for the feedback Terry ,
I also like the BILT because of the built in sun visor , I figured I could wear my regular bifocal eye glasses with it. But I'd still need sun glasses when I took the helmet off , so I guess it doesn't really matter. I can just keep using my Dewalt Bifocal Safety glasses.

I must have an odd shaped head. I've never put on a Bilt that felt good. I just bought a 707 Vendetta. Fits like a snug glove. Very good helmet.

Although I didn't buy it, I tried on the Bilt helmet and it felt really good. I have too many helmets already.

I have the AFX dual sport. Overall it's a very good value. I paid $117 on sale this past summer. Mine fits just a bit loose and the chin strap almost runs out of adjustment for me since the base of the helmet is lower than the Shoei and Nolan helmets I also have. The optics on the shield are very good and the adjustable beak works well too. At high speed, the beak can catch the air and rotate the helmet back on my head, but it's generally not a problem. YMMV

I too . have the Fly Trekker. I went thru 4 helmets in a year looking for the ONE. Finally getting a new Bell Star. Then I wanted a dual sport helmet and decided to try the Fly based purely on price feeling that I couldn't afford to buy an XD and not like it!
Turns out this cheap Fly is quieter than my $500 Bell and I can see much better. Haven't put my Bell on in months.
May try an Arai in the future but for now I love this Fly

I just got the Bilt ADV yesterday and I am quite impressed. For a "cheap helmet" I personally think the quality is more than adequate. I know the deal when it comes to cheap gear and the pros will bash these things all day long but for my style of riding, this thing will be just fine. I actually tried on a Shoei Hornet back-to-back and sure the Shoei is better quality but for the price, fit and function, the Bilt is good enough for me.
The pads are removable,snap-in and the strap is comfy padded D-ring type. I rode with it yesterday and thought the wind noise is minimal with no major buffeting that I would call excessive.
The visor even has a moisture seal around the lower lip that seals up pretty snug and internal vents that direct air directly onto the shied inner surface, no notable fogging in about 42 degrees ambient.
It has a solid visot that is mounted well and doesnt flex much with a couple upper vents that should be adequate. It even has the built in flip-down sun shade that is a nice feature. The helmet is lighter than many I have worn and I am pleased with this one. It it fails or breaks anywhere, they are waranteed and obviously easier on the pocketbook. No need to freak out if you drop it. The shield is solid and heavy guage Lexan and easy to keep clean and wiped down. Periperal vision is excellent and swinging my head around was no problem.
Overall, Im giving these "cheap helmets" a two thumbs up, they are good enough for my style of riding.

Never understood why anyone would skimp on a helmet. A good, proper fitting, helmet is a top priority to me AND my pillion.

I don't think of it as skimping. If it meets the Testing criteria and it has all the features that you are looking for, why not? I would say it is an inexpensive helmet, not cheap. IMHO the high $$$$ helmets are overpriced. Many cases you are paying for the name. Each to his own, if you have deep pockets go for it. If you are on a Budget like most of us are, we prefer to spend our money wisely. For the price of an Arai you can get an AFX and a set of K60's.

I wouldn't completely disagree with you. I will say, however my Neotech is the most expensive helmet I've ever owned and the most comfortable by far. That comfort is a safety feature for me - especially on long rides.

As a person who has been riding for over 40 years and has been in serious motorcycle accidents , I can tell you this. I've never owned a very expensive motorcycle helmet , but have always purchased a DOT approved and later DOT / Snell approved helmets. They have taken some hard hits and kept me safe and have saved my life.
I do agree that your helmets should fit you good ( whether they are inexpensive or very expensive or in between ).

I would not call it skimping on safety, this lid will save my melon, no doubt. The padding and shell are comprised of similiar compounds and resins found on the "hi-end" helmets.
It fits good and I am happy with it, the price is perfect for a budget minded rider. Everything adds up and yes, its an expensive hobby. I really like the Bilt Explorer, its a good helmet.
It looks stylish and is very functional. the money saved I can blow on something else, like gas and tires. if anyone tries one of these helmets, they may be pleasantly suprised.
