I found that unshifting, my foot was over extending upwards to the next gear. The adjustment was easy to lower the shifter lever. Provides for nice crisp shifts.

If you do adjust, mark the rod with a wax pen or marker so you have a reference. I initially adjusted 1 1/2 turns. Ill try it like that for while, but I think 1 turn might be enough.

I adjusted mine to just where I like it, but now I'm dragging my toe if i'm playing hard. ;)

Shifter was pretty good for me, but my brake pedal is too high for my liking. I just have not gotten around to adjusting it yet. Just too busy finally riding it!!! :D

My shifter was to high for me and lowered some. Perfect now.

I had to lower my brake pedal some also. This is the old school stuff with the brake switch and spring for the stop light which is very reliable as opposed a pressure switch. If you have to lower quite a bit your brake light will stay on. You will have to adjust the switch also so the brake light functions properly when the brake is applied. Check the brake light after adjusting the rear brake. Easy to forget.

After my first ride, I felt I needed to adjust both. But then after my second ride, they felt a little better. I'm now thinking one more ride and then I will decide!!

I made two adjustments on the shifter for lower, and also lowered the brake pedal. Still might need just a touch lower on both.

The brake pedal's not a problem (except that it's so darn tiny). But I too had to lower the shifter. When you downshift, you have to let off on the shifter so the spring can return, before you downshift again. I couldn't get the spring to return without lifting my whole foot. It was better once I put the seat in the high position but still not right. So I lowered the shifter so I could downshift comfortably.

The demo bike I rode had an annoyingly high shift lever, too, so I fully expected to adjust it when I got my own bike.

I'll certainly need to adjust mine here soon as I keep missing second gear for some reason. When I shift into second it feels like a positive shift and I can hear the click yet it sticks in nuetral.

A buddy of mine here at work took a quick ride around the parking lot today and missed second gear twice.

I've missed 2nd a few times but always when I tried to shift below 3,000 rpm. Everytime I've had a smooth shift to 2nd I've always been right at or just above 3 grand. This bike likes high rpms to shift that's for sure.

Sure did! It was so high I had to lift my foot off the peg to downshift. First thing I fixed once I got home. Then it was on to the farkles I have been acquiring for the past several months. We just got back from a trip to Nova Scotia so I only managed to get 65 miles in today.

On this bike and a few others I have had while short shifting at low RPM they tend not to go into 2nd or even 3rd for some reason (motor rpm and trans mesh?) even with the shifter in the position you like.
I adjusted to them by holding my shifter up while shifting to 2nd or 3rd and letting out the clutch at the same time. If the selection was not positive with the mesh of the trans and motor it will go into 2nd while letting out the clutch without a miss shiift. You can feel it go into gear with your shifter foot if it was not positive. This happens mostly when I short shift. This will work every time, I had to train myself to do this a long time ago.

I'm old but I still remember to do it. :)

I hate miss shifts. If done many times it could bend shifting forks and dog gear locks in the trans and never hold the gear again without jumping out under a load.

+1 here. Need to lower it a bit but can't seem to get around to do it either.

Adjusted my shifter yesterday. Been bothering me ever since I brought the bike home just never got around to it. Matched it to my FJR, took it for a ride and all is good now.

This is something I should have done immediately after purchase. I was dinged during the MSF ERC course because of 'slowing down' past a certain point of a corner entry, when that really wasn't the case. My foot was covering the brake, but since the pedal's not properly adjusted for me, the brake light was illuminated..minor point deduction, so arguing would have been a waste of breath. :-X

I second the point made earlier about not forgetting to adjust the mechanical brake light swich after adjusting the pedal... don't ask me why :D

For large adjustments, remove the clamp-bolt that holds the bracket onto the shift-shaft that sticks out of the transmission.
Slide the bracket off the splines and move it a couple splines, then slide it back on and put the bolt back.

For fine adjustments, loosen the jamb-nuts on the long rod that connects the shift-lever to the shift-bracket.
Twist the Rod to "thread" or "un-thread" it, and it will move the shift-lever.
re-tighten the jam-nuts when you have it where you want.

oh ok,
got you if i pull the lever off from the bolt that holds it on its on a cog with splines, so pull the lever off the spline move it down slightly put it back on so its on the splines in a different position than oem

Yes, the upper one.
#24 for large adjustments
#21 for fine adjustments
